Coin shooting is the act of finding coins using a metal detector. Coin shooting is a fun hobby that may also be very profitable in certain cases. Parks, along sidewalks, lawns, and recreation areas are excellent places to look for newer coins—anywhere where someone may have accidentally lost any loose chains. But, before you go on this joyous journey, you must have a detector at your disposal. And, fortunately, you’ve come to the right place since we’ve prepared a list of the Best Metal Detector for Coins, which you can read about below. Read it, and see what you’ll get.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

In case you don't know...

What is the Difference Between a Metal Detector and a Gold Detector?

Gold detectors are metal detectors that have particular parameters that are appropriate to their purpose or target type. The majority of metal detectors are multi-purpose devices designed to detect iron, coins, jewelry, antiquities, gold, silver, copper, and other metals. Additional features on gold detectors are often added to improve performance in detecting gold and canceling out mineral signals in gold-bearing areas. A gold detector often has higher frequencies, different ground balancing methods, and a higher price tag.

What type of detector technology is best for you?

There are two different kinds of detectors:
1. VLF: Very-Low-Frequency single-frequency detectors can provide the high frequencies required for gold detection while also providing reliable discrimination.
2. PI: Pulse Induction detectors are known for maximum depth detection in mineralized ground circumstances since they’re built to be resistant to a variety of minerals that can obstruct gold searching.

Can Metal Detectors Detect Gold?

Absolutely. The gold itself is the most important element in determining whether a metal detector can detect gold. If there’s a large nugget within 8″ of the surface, nearly any detector will locate it. The smallest nuggets, flakes, and lode deposits, on the other hand, will be the most difficult to locate and will need features that gold-specific detectors are equipped with to detect.

How do Metal Detectors Detect Gold?

Metal detectors detect gold in the same way as other metals are detected. VLF and Pulse Induction detectors operate in different ways, but they both provide the same results – auditory and/or visual evidence of a detected gold object. However, there are additional variables than detector technology that determine whether a metal detector can detect gold efficiently. This covers the ground conditions, the size of the gold, as well as the user technique and expertise.

1.
XP Metal Detector
DEUS Metal Detector

Multi-Frequency Detector

price from
$1,139.00
Our opinion:

Since it’s a multi-frequency detector with a range of pre-set programs, the XP DEUS breaks this pattern. This makes it ideal for a variety of tasks, including gold hunting. The operating frequency of this detector may be adjusted based on the circumstances. There are four options: 5kHz, 8kHz, 12kHz, and 18kHz, although you’ll most likely choose the 18kHz while looking for gold. Furthermore, this program switches the detector to all-metal mode, which allows it to identify small targets while ignoring heavily mineralized soil.

It features eight sensitivity settings ranging from 4 to 12, with the middle ground being optimum for coin hunting.

Promising review:

This is a great metal detector for the money! It replaced an old high end detector from 15 years ago. It works so much better its light and the battery is good for a whole day of detecting. I have found coins at 10-11 inches. Amazing for this price.

Extra Features Detector

price from

Our opinion:

The X-TERRA 305 is a simple detector. It has extra features that are a step up from entry-level, with the quality and precision that Minelab is known for. Despite being an entry-level detector, it contains all of the features we like to see, including Target ID, depth indication, various tones, and discrimination. The 305, on the other hand, takes things a step further with manual ground balancing rather than automated or even preset.

Promising review:

my grandfather purchased this machine for me when i got into metal detecting last year it was my first machine, and after finding tons of clad coins, i upgraded to another machine and have been hooked on the hobby ever since, the amazing thing about this machine is the different coils that you can place on it.

F44 Metal Detector

Excellent Detector with Depth Indication

Our opinion:

One of the best metal detectors for beginners has to be the F44 model. It’s reasonably priced, and it offers more functions that enable a person to improve essential detecting skills. It includes a Target ID feature, which assigns a value to a detected item depending on conductivity. This will assist you in determining the kind of coin that has been discovered prior to digging. Furthermore, since this detector is calibrated for coins, it has a depth indication that estimates the depth of the coin.

Promising review:

Great machine! I found a wealth of junk in my back yard from part of a grill to a cap to an oil drum, one earring and a water hose nozzle! But seriously it’s a great detector and easy to use. I really like it

F75 Metal Detector

Dual Shielding Technology

price from
$549.00
Our opinion:

The DST (Dual Shielding Technology) on this F75 model helps to filter out interference while pushing depth and high sensitivity to their limits. With DST, there are no compromises in performance, regardless of EMI. The FeTone Volume and FA Search Mode will come in handy for people who want to hear everything. You don’t have to turn off the iron and risk missing the coins nearby. You won’t miss a thing with these features, and you’ll hear both the good and the terrible without being worn down by the bad.

Promising review:

I am steadily getting the hang of this detector. Amazingly, I have found that it detects small bits of gold. That can be good and bad as it means a bit of work for a small bit of gold, but there is no doubt that when and if I come across larger pieces that this detector is going to find them. The price when it was on sale made this a great buy.

AT Pro Metal Detector

All-Terrain Detector

$552.46
Our opinion:

The Garrett metal detector is part of the All-Terrain series, which is intended to be used in any environment. The AT Pro has a large number of user-adjustable options. To start with, you have high-resolution iron characteristics, such as 40-level iron discrimination. You may also use Iron Audio to reduce the loudness of iron signals without notching them out. If there’s a lot of trash or artifacts about, you’ll still know you’re in the right place, but you can concentrate on the positive signals from coins.

ORX Metal Detector

Variety Frequencies

price from
$748.00
Our opinion:

The ORX is equipped with components that allow the search coil and remote control to work separately. The wireless search coil is basically a “detector” that can operate on a variety of frequencies. It only includes Gold and Coin modes and depending on the conditions of the hunting location, you can search for coins “fast” or “deep.” With the purchase of an additional underwater kit, you may also take your hunt to the water, since it is certified to be submersible up to 5 meters.

Promising review:

This Detector is very light weight which is great for older people. The instructions that came with it are not that great but figured it out. Still getting use to it but overall very good detector.

Conclusion

It’s not simple to find gold with a conventional metal detector. Gold has a lower density than iron or copper. It also has a low conductivity rating, making it undetectable by a weaker system. And, since we’ve included some gold detector products in our list above, we hope you’ll have no trouble finding the gold as you wish. Good luck!
