This list includes 10 items that are worth considering due to their quality and capabilities.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

In case you don't know...

What is the Difference Between a Metal Detector and a Gold Detector?

Gold detectors are metal detectors that have particular parameters that are appropriate to their purpose or target type. The majority of metal detectors are multi-purpose devices designed to detect iron, coins, jewelry, antiquities, gold, silver, copper, and other metals. Additional features on gold detectors are often added to improve performance in detecting gold and canceling out mineral signals in gold-bearing areas. A gold detector often has higher frequencies, different ground balancing methods, and a higher price tag.

What type of detector technology is best for you?

There are two different kinds of detectors:
1. VLF: Very-Low-Frequency single-frequency detectors can provide the high frequencies required for gold detection while also providing reliable discrimination.
2. PI: Pulse Induction detectors are known for maximum depth detection in mineralized ground circumstances since they're built to be resistant to a variety of minerals that can obstruct gold searching.

Can Metal Detectors Detect Gold?

Absolutely. The gold itself is the most important element in determining whether a metal detector can detect gold. If there's a large nugget within 8" of the surface, nearly any detector will locate it. The smallest nuggets, flakes, and lode deposits, on the other hand, will be the most difficult to locate and will need features that gold-specific detectors are equipped with to detect.

How do Metal Detectors Detect Gold?

Metal detectors detect gold in the same way as other metals are detected. VLF and Pulse Induction detectors operate in different ways, but they both provide the same results - auditory and/or visual evidence of a detected gold object. However, there are additional variables than detector technology that determine whether a metal detector can detect gold efficiently. This covers the ground conditions, the size of the gold, as well as the user technique and expertise.

10 Reviews: Best Metal Detector for Relic Hunting (Oct 2021)

Minelab GPZ 7000 Gold Nugget Metal Detector - Best Metal Detector for Relic Hunting: Zero Voltage Transmission
https://www.amazon.com/

1.
Minelab
GPZ 7000 Gold Nugget Metal Detector

Zero Voltage Transmission

price from
$7,999.00
Our Opinion:

The Minelab GPZ 7000 is completely insane. It doesn't even utilize the standard frequency technology of the other devices; instead, it uses Zero Voltage Transmission (ZVT), which detects gold buried two to three feet below the surface. ZVT also allows the detector to detect gold in the highly mineralized ground where a conventional metal detector would screech like a banshee. It also features an easy-to-use menu system that enables you to use it with ease.

Promising Review:

This is the best one I have tried. It can be set to produce almost no background noise and it will pick up a gram nugget at a foot deep loud and clear.

Fisher
Gold Bug Pro Metal Detector

Excellent Focus Feature

price from
$492.80
Our Opinion:

The Fisher Gold Bug Pro is intended to provide the greatest results possible while gold hunting. It only works at 19 kHz, which is ideal for gold, so this isn't a massive drawback. Despite the fact that it is mostly focused on gold, it does offer the ability to search for all metals indiscriminately. The Gold Bug is excellent at finding nuggets deep down and is able to work in highly mineralized soil.

Promising Review:

I have used a Gold Bug II for 15 years and this detector works just as well. Only takes one 9 volt battery as well.

Minelab
CTX 3030 Metal Detector

Removable Rechargeable Battery

price from
$2,898.00
Our Opinion:

The Minelab CTX 3030 is similar to the Equinox 800, but it outperforms it in every aspect. To identify and distinguish items underground, the machine uses Minelab's FBS-2 technology and full-range multi-frequency detection (1.5 – 100 kHz). The device also comes with a low-latency wireless module and a nice set of over-the-ear headphones. The removable rechargeable battery charges in a stand. You can carry additional batteries with you and change them out in the middle of an excursion.

Promising Review:

Very amazing machine, I search in very difficult beaches and this machine catches the signal on very magnetic black sand. I found a coin 5 minutes after turning it on. Then I spend 2 hours convincing my wife that I didn’t planted the coin, lol. This machine can be used out of the box or fine tune for your needs. It up to you but the pre-settings are amazing.
