Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
In case you don't know...
What is a metal detecting shovel?
A metal detecting shovel isn't the same as a regular shovel. It'll be smaller and more portable, with serrated edges and a pointed or curved head. While they are more durable than garden shovels, they are better suited to softer soils.
What are the types of shovels?
Edging Shovel, Trench Shovel, Flat Shovel, Tree-Planting Shovel, Power Shovel, Post Hole Shovel, Handheld Shovel, and Root Shovel are some of the many kinds of shovels available today. Each one has its own set of characteristics, so you must pick one depending on your needs.
What makes a good shovel?
A robust, durable blade and shaft are essential, regardless of shovel type, to ensure that the shovel can penetrate difficult soil without chipping or breaking. The size, weight, and blade shape should also be considered based on the task at hand.
What is the Difference Between a Metal Detector and a Gold Detector?
Gold detectors are metal detectors that have particular parameters that are appropriate to their purpose or target type. The majority of metal detectors are multi-purpose devices designed to detect iron, coins, jewelry, antiquities, gold, silver, copper, and other metals. Additional features on gold detectors are often added to improve performance in detecting gold and canceling out mineral signals in gold-bearing areas. A gold detector often has higher frequencies, different ground balancing methods, and a higher price tag.

Let us present the Ground Hawg by White's for you who are serious metal detectorists who need a hefty shovel. This heavy-duty digger is ideal for digging through harder roots, clay, rocks, and other difficult terrains. It features a broad blade with dual serrated edges, resulting in a 6” wide and 7” deep cube after three cuts. It's also lightweight, weighing just 2.85 pounds, making it ideal for on-the-go use.
It's all you need! Sharp , small but heavy duty!!
|DIMENSIONS||36 x 5.5 x 2.5|
The Lesche Ball Handle Heavy Duty shovel is one of the best metal detecting shovels. This type is made of aircraft-grade tubing that has been heat-treated for additional strength. This shovel is very durable, with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty. As it is a lightweight digger, it is ideal for metal detecting. It's a decent overall length of 31”, yet it's extremely light and simple to carry.
|DIMENSIONS||31.5 x 4 x 2.75|
The Radius Garden Root Slayer can be the most effective metal detector available. Even the hardest roots are no match for this, and once you start digging, you won't even notice them! When metal detecting, this multi-purpose shovel will remove the need for other tools. With a kick-sawing motion, the ripsaw teeth cut through the biggest roots, while the inverted V cutting blade tip breaks down anything smaller.
This is a great digger for nearly all relic hunting conditions, sturdy and not too heavy. Buy it!

This little shovel is useful for quickly removing your findings from the ground. The U Dig It Pro is made of stainless steel and comes with a pouch for easy transport. It also folds up for even more convenient storage and takes up very little space. This small shovel weighs just 5.2 ounces and is small enough to carry in a backpack. Metal detecting, rock removal, camping, and even digging holes for gardening are all possible with this tool.
|DIMENSIONS||8.9 x 2.5 x .75 inches (extended), 5.75 x 2.5 x 1 inches (folded)|
Another useful digging tool is the Whites Digmaster digger. You get a 7.25" double serrated blade made of heat-treated steel with this digging tool for powerful effective digging power. If this tool gets misplaced in the field, the bright orange handle makes it easy to locate. The handle has a thumb guide and is easy to dig with. There's also a slot on the end to attach a lanyard if desired.
This tool is amazing. It’s great for digging weeds. It is sturdy enough to use in dry, hard soil. Weeds don’t stand a chance against this thing. The design allows for a comfortable grip.
|DIMENSIONS||11 x 2 x 2 inches|
This digging tool is made of heat-treated steel and features serrated teeth on one side, making it a strong and durable digging tool. With ease, this digging tool will cut through the toughest terrain. What's more, the handle is constructed of non-slip plastic with a non-slip guard in front of the blade to prevent your hand from slipping to the blade when digging.
I use this digger for metal detecting. It is a work horse! I abuse it regularly, and it just keeps working. This is the first small digger I've had that lasted for than a month. At almost 2 years old it is in the same condition as I bought it. I highly recommend this for anyone tired of bending/breaking small shovels.
|DIMENSIONS||5.1 x 4.5 x 1.2 inches|
This is a survival knife that doubles as a digging tool, constructed of carbon stainless steel and capable of digging through the hardest of soil. A 7.5" digging blade with serrations on both sides is included. While digging, a non-slip guard will keep your hands from sliding onto the blade. You will love the comfortable handle and the sheath that allows you to attach this tool to your belt. This makes your digger portable and easy to use.
What a great tool! The Garrett edge digger is ideal for metal detecting. Cuts right through the ground so easy. I love it and am so happy I bought it. Garrett makes great products. I also use the Garrett pro pointer. Always reliable.
|DIMENSIONS||11.6 x 3.6 x 2.4 inches|
It's easy to see why this tool is useful for creating plugs. It's designed to assist you through the cutting process. You can make very small holes with serrated edges that are both discreet and simple to fill. The blade is about 7 1/2 inches long. It's one-of-a-kind since it's slightly curved and offset to one side. The big stopper on the blade will prevent you from digging too deep after you've inserted it into the dirt. After that, all you have to do is turn the handle.
Bought this for metal detecting. Extremely sturdy and the orange handle is great for visibility. I would take away half a star because the factory coating on the blade makes the edge completely dull - not an issue in sand or loam, but in clay or frozen ground you'll want to take a mill file and put a sharper edge on if you want to avoid frustration.
|DIMENSIONS||3.2 x 2.6 x 12 inches|
On the first impression, this seems to be a serious digging tool able to produce flawless plugs in any environment. It's a heavy-duty shovel with a special design that makes it easy to handle roots. The contoured spade is a unique feature of this shovel. This makes it simple to make a circular plug.
Does a great job cutting through small roots and hard soil. Digging small holes around sprinkler heads or for gardening is much easier now that I have this shovel. Wish I had bought it sooner. I especially like that the top of the shovel has an area big enough to put your foot on to generate extra digging power. Be aware, it's much heavier than a standard shovel, probably part of why it works better.

|DIMENSIONS||45 x 10.5 x 3.8 inches|
It's made of carbon steel and has a threaded lock system that keeps the blade in position when digging or entrenching. On the other side, it ensures that you are ultimately protected and secure. At this low price, the greatest part is that you'll get a hard carrying case that can easily be connected to a belt or backpack for further protection.
I metal detect and many times need to dig up my finds. This shovel is always great to have along since it is lightweight and strong as well as sharp enough to tackle any job that I give it. This is one of the best purchases I have made in a very long time.
