Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

In case you don't know

How to choose the best survival knife for backpacking?

There are five things you need to remember, they are materials, blade design, handle design, serration, and the handle material.

What is the best length for a blade knife?

Use knives that have blades that are around 2 and 4 inches in length. You will have more control and accuracy with a smaller blade.

How long should a survival knife be?

Most survival knives are between 6 and 12 inches long. If it’s too small, you might not be able to do things like chop wood, which you’ll need to do to stay alive.

What is the different between folding knife and fixed-blade knife?

Most knives for backpacking are ones that fold up. They are small and don’t need a sheath, which adds weight. Fixed-blade knives could be stronger and last longer than folding knives, but they are heavier.

TACTICAL KEYCHAIN KUBOTAN SERRATED KNIFE

A Bring-able Key Ring Jabber with Blade

price from
$9.95
Our opinion:

This Kubotan key ring jabber is convenient for carrying in a handbag, pocket, or with keys because of its small size and compact design. The length of its concealed blade, which is composed of chrome-plated stainless steel and features a hyper sharp tip, is 2.5 inches. To expose the blade, you just have to detach the jabber end from its housing. In addition to that, it comes with a key ring attachment, which makes it quite convenient to carry everywhere.

Promising review:

"The item is great and I like the way they suquester the knife. I gave one to a former Army buddy and he could not stop looking at it. Thank you and keep up the good work."

StatGear
Surviv-All Fixed-Blade Bowie Knife

A Survival Knife with Sharpening Stone

price from
$37.79
Our opinion:

The drop point blade of the StatGear knife is made of 440 stainless steel, and it’s hefty and has no serrations! There is finger comfort and a large bolster on the synthetic handle. For further visibility, they added a few strips of bright yellow-green paint on the surface. In addition, a sharpening stone is also included with the knife in the sheath in case you need to use it in a pinch.

Promising review:

"This is a great camping knife and has everything you need or can expect from the knife. I took it on several adventures already and proves to be great every time I needed it."

22-48485 Paraframe Mini Pocket Knife

An Ideal Mini Pocket Knife

price from
$8.74
Our opinion:

The open-frame style of this daily carry knife is ideal in minimalism. The Paraframe is a no-fuss attachment to your pocket or belt clip that’s simple to wash, carry, and open. The open-frame style of this daily carry knife is the utmost in minimalism. In terms of portability and ease of use, the Paraframe is perfect for carrying in a pocket or on a belt loop. In addition, this knife can do it all, with a variety of blade options to choose from.

Promising review:

"I work in law enforcement and we only allowed to carry a small blade knife when on duty where I work. I’ve had this knife nearly two years and have used it in multiple situations, most non work essential, but, there have also been several where this little buddy came through for me in a quick “we need a knife” situation(s). Attached to my hoozah and I’m very happy and recommend this item."

Victorinox
Swiss Army Classic SD Pocket Knife

A Multitasking Pocket Knife

price from
$16.99
Our opinion:

The Victorinox’s blade of the Classic SD is really sharp. The two feet of cardboard it ate in one go, despite its little stature. Cutting thin cordage was no problem with the Classic SD. However, most camp chores, such as chopping wood or vegetables, were at best difficult. A multi-tool is another name for the Classic SD. Additionally, it comes equipped with tweezers, a toothpick, and a nail file in addition to the blade.

Petzl
Spatha

A Lightest Survival Knife Ever

price from
$29.95
Our opinion:

As a value buy, the Petzl Spatha has a lot to offer. It’s the lightest 7-inch knife ever. In fact, it boasts the highest length-to-weight ratio discovered. This is significant because climbing protection gear is made up of multiple hotties of metal in different configurations intended to be inserted into rock fractures. Moreover, the spin ring makes operating the knife with gloved hands much easier, and it also serves as an excellent method to connect the knife to climbing gear using a carabiner.

Promising review:

"Great and light knife. Some sort of lock would be nice, but otherwise great. I typically keep it in a zippered chalk bag pocket (cotapaxi) so no worries about it coming loose."

5.
Deejo
Linerlock Juniper

A Rapid-work Survival Knife

price from
$43.99
Our opinion:

It was great at slicing through almost anything. The Deejo made rapid work of everything: paper, cardboard, veggies, and cordage. The Deejo Wood 37g first seemed fragile due to its basic appearance. It did, however, it will impress you with its durability. However, during operations like whittling wood or drilling holes, the blade wasn’t so sturdy, and there was some give in the grip.

Promising review:

"This was a big hit with my fiancée. he tends to like the more rugged style knife, so I wasn't sure he'd like this one - but he really did! it is a beautiful knife, very artistic and minimal. Wonderful quality and a one of a kind gift!"

4.
Opinel
Stainless Steel Folding Knives

A Simple yet Good Knife for Cutting

price from
$15.00
Our opinion:

Even though it wasn’t very sharp right out of the box, it did surprisingly well in cutting. You could cut through a piece of cardboard much faster than with some of the sharper knives. The safety lock on the Opinel is called “Virobloc.” A metal ring twists to lock the blade either open or closed. You will like how simple it was. In addition, you could easily tell when the lock was on, and it felt safer than some of the frame locks.

Promising review:

"Very simple design and very sharp outside the box. Get familiar with the lock system before using. This knife throws a decent spark as well."

3.
Spyderco
Honeybee Non-Locking Knife

A Smooth-handled Survival Knife

price from
$22.40
Our opinion:

The Honeybee could cut wood, but because it didn’t have a locking mechanism, it was hard to use and dangerous. Still, if you really need it to, it can get the job done. It could make a spark on a Ferro rod, but it wasn’t easy, and the back of its blade was worn down. In addition, The handle is smooth, and the size is so small that you have to be careful when you hold it.

Promising review:

"I purchased this as my "secret santa" gift exchange item for my workplace and hand engraved it myself. It's hard to find things made in stainless, I can't engrave on titanium. He was very happy with his gift."

ESEE
Izula-II Fixed Blade Knife

A Heavy yet Durable Knife

price from
$82.50
Our opinion:

It was made by Randall’s Adventure and Training, which started out as a jungle survival school in the Peruvian Amazon. It can be used in the wilderness and for survival. This knife is real, in other words. Even right out of the box, its blade wasn’t the sharpest, but it was the thickest and most durable. Even though it’s not a camp hatchet, it’ll do in a pinch. If you get the Izula with the handle and sheath, it’s a bit heavy for backpacking.

Promising review:

"It is small yet the handle is large enough for my hand. I scout carry the knife and it is comfortable."

Delica 4

A Solid Survival Knife

price from
$79.96
Our opinion:

This Spyderco Delica 4 knife is only 2.5 oz and is very light. It also has a razor-sharp blade and a very comfortable, solid grip. The Delica 4 smoothly opens and closes, and the thumb hole makes it easy to open with one hand. In addition, the knife is very solid and feels like it was made well. It was one of the sharpest blades ever seen, and a piece of paper went through it like butter.

Promising review:

"I have a nice collection and was looking for the best work knife. I'm a plumber by trade and bushcraft, hiking canoe camping enthusiasts. I have tried several different brands ant this stays in my pocket. Great, sturdy, lightweight combination. Can't go wrong with this one."
