Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
In case you don't know...
Why do welders wear helmets?
One of the most crucial items of personal protective equipment that a welder must-have is a welding helmet, sometimes known as a “hood.” A good helmet will protect your eyes and skin not just from strong sparks, but also from the arc’s potentially vision-damaging UV and infrared radiation.
How dark should a welding helmet be?
To avoid flash burn on your eyes, use a welding lens that is between a shade 10 and a shade 13. The darker the shade, the higher the number. However, the darker the shade you need to avoid burning your eyes, the higher the amperage you’re using.
What shade level should I look for?
The amount of light that passes through your shade is determined by the shade level, which is an important characteristic to consider. If you’re a beginner, you should aim for a score of 9 to 13.
Should I get a solar powered or battery powered welding helmet?
It’s entirely up to you whether you purchase a solar-powered or battery-powered welding helmet. However, keep in mind that the majority of high-end welding helmets will be solar-powered. If you’re planning to get a battery-powered welding helmet, be sure it has decent ratings because it could be low-quality or cheap.

Locks tight where u want it, doesn't hurt ur head, doesn't try to fall off or twist if u need to lay on ur side under a car doing some welding, no neck strain from it being light weight, its sturdy and durable, has the flip up lens feature that I like so u can see without lifting the whole mask, a clear window still protects ur eyes from debris when the welding lens is lifted, its a great helmet for anyone and its very affordable :)

I'm a new welder and I suck at it. I had purchased a 65$ hood from here and I kept getting retina burn, was having a hard time seeing the work and just having a hard time getting any better. I searched around and bought this helmet and it was a night and day difference. Spend the money on a good helmet or just get a conventional non-auto darkening helmet because the cheap ones will destroy your eyes. This is a great welding hood/helmet.

My wife bought this helmet for me when I started a new welding project and complained that I could not see out of my old, hobby-type helmet well enough to make a good weld. In the new project, the look of the weld makes a difference. With the new Auto-darkening helmet, I can make a great weld - an no grinding afterward! Love it!

Feeling like the Masterchief while spraying sparks could be a selling point if you’re a fan of the “HALO” franchise.
First and foremost I do need to state that I'm not an all day welder, therefore, I do not wear this helmet all day and couldn't speak on the comfort during wear for long periods of time. But what I can say is that for the multiple times that i've used this helmet it is absolutely wonderful! The display on the inside of the helmet is easy to use and very responsive. The viewing window is large and allows me to see a great amount in front of me. I truly couldn't recommend this helmet any more. I love it!

It will revert to its normal state as soon as the welding stops. Despite the fact that welding is a dangerous and difficult job, wearing this helmet will keep you safe and comfortable, and it fits well on the head.
I'm a boilermaker and weld nearly everyday at work. I work with guys who have been in for 20 plus years and they all agree that this is the clearest lens out there. Its lightweight and comfortable. The weld is insanely clear and has some shades of white, blues and purple. I can't get over it. The grind setting is light enough you can actually use it and see what you are doing. People on my job are buying them up.

10.Antra
Wide Shade Range Auto Darkening Welding Helmet
Welding Helmet with Shade Levels Varieties
This welding helmet is perfect for beginners since it comes in a variety of shade levels ranging from 5 to 13. As a result, you’ll be able to operate in any light. It also features a viewing surface of 3.86” x 1.73”, or 6.68 square inches, which isn’t bad for a helmet in this price category. It includes eight different shade levels, a solar-powered auto-darkening lens, and is quite comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
I have used this helmet for quite some time now and it works great. I had one of the old fixed shade helmet, which I got several flashes from because I did not flip down in time. This helmet takes all that trouble away and it works great. By the way, if you are an experienced welder you know that flashes are really a bad thing. They can cause serious eye problems and it is just not worth saving a few dollars. If you just learning I would highly recommend getting an auto darkening helmet. Welding takes time to learn but is really rewarding in the long term. To be able to use your helmet without the worry of getting a flash is great.
