Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
In case you don't know...
Why do welders wear helmets?
One of the most crucial items of personal protective equipment that a welder must-have is a welding helmet, sometimes known as a “hood.” A good helmet will protect your eyes and skin not just from strong sparks, but also from the arc’s potentially vision-damaging UV and infrared radiation.
How dark should a welding helmet be?
To avoid flash burn on your eyes, use a welding lens that is between a shade 10 and a shade 13. The darker the shade, the higher the number. However, the darker the shade you need to avoid burning your eyes, the higher the amperage you’re using.
What shade level should I look for?
The amount of light that passes through your shade is determined by the shade level, which is an important characteristic to consider. If you’re a beginner, you should aim for a score of 9 to 13.
Should I get a solar powered or battery powered welding helmet?
It’s entirely up to you whether you purchase a solar-powered or battery-powered welding helmet. However, keep in mind that the majority of high-end welding helmets will be solar-powered. If you’re planning to get a battery-powered welding helmet, be sure it has decent ratings because it could be low-quality or cheap.
10 Reviews: Best Welding Helmet for MIG (Dec 2023)
Starting with a welding helmet from YesWelder, a well-known brand. With the grinding capability, it’s ideal for TIG, MIG, MMA, and Plasma applications. It has a pivot design headgear for good comfort and has a better clarity with True Color view. This welding helmet is also worth considering since it has a super large viewing area and four excellent sensors.
Very nice, very responsive on the auto darkening I like that it has a grinding setting and a cutting setting. The head gear raps around my head nicely and very comfortable.

This is the welding helmet for you if you’re looking for a basic and low-cost option. It’s a compact welding helmet that’s ideal for hobby welding and anyone who prefers the traditional flip-up lens. Don’t worry; it’s built to be both durable and comfortable, so you can shield your face and head when welding.
Locks tight where u want it, doesn't hurt ur head, doesn't try to fall off or twist if u need to lay on ur side under a car doing some welding, no neck strain from it being light weight, its sturdy and durable, has the flip up lens feature that I like so u can see without lifting the whole mask, a clear window still protects ur eyes from debris when the welding lens is lifted, its a great helmet for anyone and its very affordable :)

Well, it’s a great panoramic view welding helmet that’s been custom-made for you. It contains two extra auto-darkening screens on the side that darken separately in response to light, in addition to the enormous front screen. The extra peripheral vision is useful for repositioning while the hood is still down. Not only that, but the clarity is excellent, and it features true color technology, which helps to boost visibility even more.
I’ve never seen better out of a good than this one. Even at night welding is a breeze because of the vision this gives you. Please, buy this and make some better welds and stop wasting time with other hoods!

Next up is this welding helmet that features Clearlight lens technology that it employs means you can see your work. The digital controls are extremely simple to see and operate, allowing you to customize them to match your needs.
I'm a new welder and I suck at it. I had purchased a 65$ hood from here and I kept getting retina burn, was having a hard time seeing the work and just having a hard time getting any better. I searched around and bought this helmet and it was a night and day difference. Spend the money on a good helmet or just get a conventional non-auto darkening helmet because the cheap ones will destroy your eyes. This is a great welding hood/helmet.

In the light state, you’ll be able to see clearly between welds, and in grind mode, you’ll be able to see clearly between welds. Because of the lightweight of this helmet, you’ll be able to work on a project for lengthy periods of time. The Optrel VegaView 2.5 is the clear winner when it comes to masking visibility when you’re not welding.
This welding helmet is awesome ! My boyfriend bought me one and he lived it so much that I decided to get him one for Christmas. The view is very clear .

Continue to a helmet with a high-quality helmet shell that is curved to reduce heat and fogging while also improving fume deflection. Not only that, but it also came with fantastic headgear that can be adjusted for maximum performance and comfort. The headgear’s slider adjusts in a variety of ways, making it incredibly versatile in terms of the welder’s goals.
My wife bought this helmet for me when I started a new welding project and complained that I could not see out of my old, hobby-type helmet well enough to make a good weld. In the new project, the look of the weld makes a difference. With the new Auto-darkening helmet, I can make a great weld - an no grinding afterward! Love it!

This is another high-end welding helmet with a comparable price tag. The backlit, color touchscreen control panel distinguishes this auto-darkening welding helmet. This enables you to create eight distinct memory configurations that you can access at any moment. Feeling like the Masterchief while spraying sparks could be a selling point if you’re a fan of the “HALO” franchise.
First and foremost I do need to state that I'm not an all day welder, therefore, I do not wear this helmet all day and couldn't speak on the comfort during wear for long periods of time. But what I can say is that for the multiple times that i've used this helmet it is absolutely wonderful! The display on the inside of the helmet is easy to use and very responsive. The viewing window is large and allows me to see a great amount in front of me. I truly couldn't recommend this helmet any more. I love it!

Lincoln, on the other hand, offers a welding helmet with an excellent auto-darkening feature that switches from light to dark as soon as the welding process begins. It will revert to its normal state as soon as the welding stops. Despite the fact that welding is a dangerous and difficult job, wearing this helmet will keep you safe and comfortable, and it fits well on the head.
I'm a boilermaker and weld nearly everyday at work. I work with guys who have been in for 20 plus years and they all agree that this is the clearest lens out there. Its lightweight and comfortable. The weld is insanely clear and has some shades of white, blues and purple. I can't get over it. The grind setting is light enough you can actually use it and see what you are doing. People on my job are buying them up.
|POWER SUPPLY||1 Lithium Metal batteries required|
This welding helmet is perfect for beginners since it comes in a variety of shade levels ranging from 5 to 13. As a result, you’ll be able to operate in any light. It also features a viewing surface of 3.86” x 1.73”, or 6.68 square inches, which isn’t bad for a helmet in this price category. It includes eight different shade levels, a solar-powered auto-darkening lens, and is quite comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
I have used this helmet for quite some time now and it works great. I had one of the old fixed shade helmet, which I got several flashes from because I did not flip down in time. This helmet takes all that trouble away and it works great. By the way, if you are an experienced welder you know that flashes are really a bad thing. They can cause serious eye problems and it is just not worth saving a few dollars. If you just learning I would highly recommend getting an auto darkening helmet. Welding takes time to learn but is really rewarding in the long term. To be able to use your helmet without the worry of getting a flash is great.
