Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
In case you don't know...
Why do welders wear helmets?
One of the most crucial items of personal protective equipment that a welder must-have is a welding helmet, sometimes known as a "hood." A good helmet will protect your eyes and skin not just from strong sparks, but also from the arc's potentially vision-damaging UV and infrared radiation.
How dark should a welding helmet be?
To avoid flash burn on your eyes, use a welding lens that is between a shade 10 and a shade 13. The darker the shade, the higher the number. However, the darker the shade you need to avoid burning your eyes, the higher the amperage you're using.
What shade level should I look for?
The amount of light that passes through your shade is determined by the shade level, which is an important characteristic to consider. If you're a beginner, you should aim for a score of 9 to 13.
Should I get a solar powered or battery powered welding helmet?
It's entirely up to you whether you purchase a solar-powered or battery-powered welding helmet. However, keep in mind that the majority of high-end welding helmets will be solar-powered. If you're planning to get a battery-powered welding helmet, be sure it has decent ratings because it could be low-quality or cheap.
10 Reviews: Best Passive Welding Helmet (Sep 2021)
Starting with the ArcOne V-1526 Vision Welding Helmet, one of the best ArcOne welding helmets on the market. At a full size 54 inches, it only weighs 14 oz, which is remarkably light for a helmet of that size. It covers the entire head, ears, and neck. Electronic filters up to 3/8 inch can also be installed in the variable center portion. Includes. The helmet is extremely robust, and the sweatband absorbs moisture for added comfort while working.
Great lightweight helmet I added a x81vx lens like it as well as my nexgen

If you're seeking the best old-school welding helmet with all of the essential features, look at it. It is simple enough for a newbie to use without being unduly sophisticated. It has a front display mechanism that allows it to be quickly flipped up and down. As a result, switching back and forth between the shaded and conventional view lenses is feasible. For added safety, a transparent lens is installed behind the shade lens in the hood.
I'm not a pro welder, but have been welding many years, and this is a good helmet. Fully adjustable, and the lens works like it should. Helmet swivels up, as well the lens is hinged and is easily lifts up to reveal a clear lens to view your work. No auto darkening, just a simple, always dark welding mask that works like is should. Well worth the price.
|VIEW AREA||4-1/2- by 2-inch|
It's another old-school round shape design welding helmet with a smaller viewing area, as you can see. When it comes to quality, this helmet is highly sturdy and lightweight, allowing you to wear it comfortably. Furthermore, it includes a flip lens welding hood, cover plate, and expanded head and chin shielding for extra welder protection.
|VIEW AREA||4-1/4-inches width by 2-inches height|
Take a look at this one; it's designed in such a way that it provides superb viewing coverage for everybody who wears it. This helmet is one of the smallest in terms of weight, weighing only 1.6 pounds. For this time, it is a popular choice among welders.
Works great for the work my husband does.
This welder helmet has a light and simple design that is suitable for those who want to wear a simple yet practical welder helmet. The helmet is completely black and comes without any belts. It also has a decent viewing area and a magnifying lens holder included in the package. It is well-known for its shade ten lenses, which are frequently regarded as among the best passive welding lenses.
It does what its supposed to do.
|DARK STATES||8 to 12|
|VIEW AREA||15-7/10 square inches|
|POWER SUPPLY||1 Lithium ion batteries required. (included)|
Next, this durable helmet has a 3.93" x 2.36" viewing field that provides an uninterrupted vision at all stages of the welding process without having to lift the hood. It also has varied hues ranging from 9 to 13 with simple digital settings, as well as sensitivity and delay adjustments for various jobs and durations.
Amazing hood with a larger field of view which is really nice compared to most
|DARK STATES||9 to 13|
|VIEW AREA||3.93" x 2.36"|
This helmet is a great value for the money because of its ultra-lightweight (6-ounce shell) and gold lens color. When it comes to passive helmets, such a light shell has a distinct benefit as with a heavier helmet, nodding your head all day can be very taxing on your neck. The filter glass is not only ultra-clear, but it also uses a gold filter instead of a green tint for far truer colors.
Home shop helmet and it is great. Bought one like it 30 years ago and the head strap finally broke. Replace the helmet with a lighter one

One of the most frequently touted advantages of the Jackson HLX 10 is its ability to stay upright. It locks into place at the top of the pivot, but with a small nod, it drops smoothly. It has high-quality optics and a large viewing area, allowing you to observe the work from an angle when you can’t fit your helmet into the work zone.
awesome helmet headgear is amazing, the plastic is pretty flexible which is good so won’t snap or crack. definitely worth the money. also comes with the amber color lense which is my favorite and normally hard to find. but all in all very satisfied.

This helmet provides you with everything you need to stay safe while still being productive in adverse situations. This fiberglass welding helmet has a compact design that allows welders to reach and work in places where a normal helmet would be difficult. It comes with a constant-fit rubber headband that you may re-adjust as needed for added comfort.
It’s cheap, lightweight and easy to use. I added a solar powered Tradesman auto darkening filter and a set of red knobs. I also trimmed the top and bottom about 3” to fit me better and added a quick paint job to set mine apart from the other guys at work.
|DARK STATES||2" x 4"|
This helmet is made of nylon, which makes it more durable than a regular fiberglass welding helmet. It is extremely durable since it is made of the world's toughest thermoplastic resin. Users benefit from increased overhead shielding thanks to the enlarged crown. Suitable for a wide range of operations.
I bought this hood to use with a hard hat at work. It’s a large hood and fits great over the hard hat. Not the lightest hood though, but works great and is durable. Flip front piece is great and even better when using a auto dark lense.
