This one may be a little out of your pricing budget, but it’s a fantastic first knife. The AXIS lock keeps your hands out of the way while closing the knife, the blade is a little under 3 inches long, and the design is basic and unthreatening. Moreover, this Benchmade Mini Griptilian would be a fantastic first knife if the child is responsible, but don’t be surprised if they lose it.

"Very near perfect EDC knife. Excellent edge holding blade steel. S30V is a upgrade from the previous steel they've used. Takes a bit longer to sharpen, but Benchmade offers free lifetime sharpening. Highly reccomend this knife like most Benchmades."

There are a lot of reasons why a first-time hunter shouldn’t acquire a SAK, but there are also plenty of good reasons why they should get one. It is possible that the Tinker will come in useful more frequently, which would further strengthen the person who has the knife. The Tinker is somewhat smaller than the other knives, but it still includes a range of tools.

"I usally dont buy a duplicate of a knife but this knife is that good. It has all the tools that I need. The steel is french stainless and the knife is made in Switzerland (Not China). Knife holds and edge very well razor sharp and its easy to sharpen. The knife is not overly big in the pocket. Im completely satisfied. Of all the Swiss Army knives Ive owned this is my favorite."
