Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Just in case you wonder...
Why do I need a microphone?
Some people want the flexibility of using a computer recording application on their own computer, but they also want to be able to record conversations quietly without being discovered. Others choose an external microphone that can be used with a number of recording applications in order to maximize their chances of capturing a sound recording. Others want their voice to be clearly heard even if they are standing far away from a room’s or studio’s speakers.
What can I do to improve the quality of my Zoom microphone?
– Make use of a high-quality audio microphone.
– Test and optimize your studio microphone.
– Stamp out the echo.
– It would be preferable if you did not stand too near to the microphone.
– Turn off sound processing if it’s bothering you.
– Ensure that you have a stable internet connection.
Which is better: XLR or USB microphones?
– USB mics are mostly plug-and-play, requiring relatively little knowledge of sound. You connect it to your laptop, press the record button in the software, and you’re ready to begin. They are also affordable.
– For more advanced tasks, you’ll want to XLR microphones. This allows you to use numerous microphones simultaneously while maintaining tactile control over sound levels. However, using an XLR microphone involves the purchase of additional equipment.
What are the types of mics?
– Condenser microphones are the most common kind of microphone used for acoustic or acoustic-electric instruments. They are also the most sensitive and more affordable alternative.
– Diaphrasing is an audio engineering term that refers to the undesired distortions heard in condenser recordings.
10 Reviews: Best Microphone for Streaming (Apr 2024)

Blue Microphones
Snowball iCE USB Mic
Best for budget
The Blue Snowball iCE is a low-cost alternative to the #1 pick on our list. It’s quite easy to use, owing to the plug-and-play capabilities of USB microphones. The frequency response range of 40Hz to 18kHz provides us with a smooth frequency response and high-quality sound. You’ll also be able to choose between cardioid and omnidirectional polar patterns. While many streamers will not need it, there is also a -10dB pad that can be adjusted to reduce sensitivity so that you may capture louder sound sources.
I recommend this mic to people who either want to begin in streaming or to just have a better quality mic during gameplay/ meetings or anything else you might need to use a mic! Sounds great and looks cool for the price

Audio Technica
AT2005USB
With desktop tripod support
The Audio Technica AT2005USB only detects sounds from the capsule’s front. The frequency response of 50Hz to 50kHz isn’t the most detailed, but this streaming microphone features a low-mass diaphragm that will do more than enough to get your voice over to your listeners in a forceful way. It weighs almost half a pound and comes with desktop tripod support! The headphone connection, which allows you to check your audio during live stream events, is something we really cherish.
Exactly what I was looking for my stream. Works well with a Mixer physical or digital. I didn't use the stand but I am sure that works with no issues.

Audio Technica
AT2020
Taking up all background noise
The Audio Technica AT2020, being a unidirectional condenser microphone, strikes a good mix between recording high-quality audio and taking up all background noise. It is side-addressed, enabling you to suspend the microphone upright while singing into the capsule’s side. This function provides a larger surface area for picking up voices as well as music. This is one of the most popular, high-quality, and reasonably priced streaming mics on the market.
one of the best purchases ever ! works perfectly with my go xlr and makes my voice sound so nice on stream !

Blue Microphones
Yeti USB Microphone
Simple, easy-to-use pick
The Yeti doesn’t seem to be showing its age, combining class-leading performance with a simple, easy-to-use design. It’s also reasonably priced, so it can accommodate both first-time microphone owners and seasoned streamers. The Blue Yeti features bidirectional, omnidirectional, and stereo recording patterns in addition to cardioid mode. If you live stream podcast recordings or interviews rather than games or commentary, you have a lot more options.
Bought this for a friend that does hard-core gaming and streaming to replace the standard built-in mic he was using on his camera. Sound quality improved by 1000%.

Elgato
Wave:3
Excellent on-mic controls
The Wave: 3’s party trick is the way it works with the Elgato Stream Deck. Set them up together, and you’ll be able to manage your mic input level, mix audio between the Wave: 3 and other sources, and toggle monitoring with the click of a button. The attraction of such a control approach is obvious when you’re attempting to focus on presenting an engaging stream. The software, on-mic controls, and capsule quality provide everything you could possibly need to stream with the greatest audio possible.

HyperX
QuadCast S
Cool RGB lighting
The HyperX QuadCast S has completely configurable RGB lighting, making it an excellent complement for other light-up gaming peripherals and PCs. Its cardioid-pattern recording sounds are crisp and clear enough for professional streamers, and its built-in shock mount prevents unpleasant bumping noises while repositioning it. The QuadCast S is more costly than the RGB-less QuadCast, but it’s one of our favorite lighted microphones.
I bought this mic for my daughter for her gaming stream. The sound quality that this gives, is amazing! It made a huge difference in her quality and her viewers all love the change for the better!

EPOS Gaming
B20
Clear sound quality
The EPOS B20 is another mic that touts itself as a streaming aid. When combined with software, such as the EPOS Gaming Suite, the B20 performs well. This gives you access to a slew of audio parameters that you wouldn’t be able to adjust with just the microphone. We particularly like the B20’s sleek design and clear sound quality. Even at present prices, it may be worthwhile to splurge on if you want to fine-tune your stream audio using the associated software.
This microphone is simply next level when it comes to speech clarity, I’ve recently moved from a Blue Snowball to this and the difference is simply amazing, everyone that watches my stream noticed instantly and asked what I had done to improve my audio quality [...]

The Shure SM7B is a super-cardioid microphone that is intended to capture just what is delivered straight through the front of the capsule while muting the remainder. This high degree of detail has been used for every kind of voice application. It’s even being used as an ASMR microphone. The Shure SM7B is often used for recording hip hop vocals in current music, but Michael Jackson also utilized it for his Thriller album back in the day! Talk about versatility!
Feels almost silly to write a review because, I mean, it’s the SM7B. I use it in my home studio for vocal recording, podcasting, and streaming. It 1000% lives up to its name. It’s as clean and warm as you’d expect. A must have for any at home producer.

Electro-Voice
RE20
Effective sound shielding
The Variable D is the first feature that distinguishes the Electro-Voice RE20 from the others on this list. This prevents the microphone from experiencing proximity effect, enabling you to move about in your seat without the audio gain altering. It’s also a real cardioid (unidirectional) microphone with no coloration when rotated 180 degrees off-axis! An inbuilt pop filter and an element shock mount provide effective sound shielding.
[...] The RE20 is where it's at. Clear, crisp, and deep sound. Great for podcasts, voiceovers, streaming, calls, singing, basically anything you can think of. There's a reason this dynamic mic has not changed the way it's built because it's built like a tank. [...]
