Hydration packs were a must-have at each trailhead or group ride. There was thereafter a movement away from them. With a dependable saddle bag and enough of space within the frame for water bottles, hydration packs were consigned to bike packers and riders who often rode deep into the bush. However, with the growth of long travel trail bikes and dropper seat posts in recent years, there has been less capacity for on-bike storage for water and other supplies. As a consequence, an increasing number of mountain bikers, like this one, have adopted hydration packs as a storage option. Here are list of suitable hydration bladder to accompany your mountain biking trips.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do you clean your bladder?

Fill the bladder halfway with warm water (not hot enough to scorch you), add a cleaning pill (or your own cleaning materials), close it, and shake it. Pinch open the bite valve until you see water coming out of it, then lift the reservoir up, allowing the tube to drape into the sink.

How do you drink from a hydration bladder?

In your mouth, place the tube. Bite down on the tube and suck inwards, much as you would with a straw. Water should be able to exit the tube due to the suction force. Swallow the water until it’s gone, then let go of the drink tube. Attach it to the chest strap of your hydration pack.

What is a hydration bladder?

A hydration pack, often known as a hydration bladder, is a hydration system that consists of a backpack or waistpack with a reservoir or “bladder” constructed of rubber or flexible plastic. The reservoir has a sealed mouth that may be filled with fluids and a hose that enables the user to sip without using their hands.

Do you need a hydration bladder?

Overall, persons who utilize hydration bladders can carry even huge quantities of water comfortably, and the sipping tube makes staying hydrated straightforward. As a result, hydration bladders are a must-have item for travelers and anybody planning longer travels.

It’s vital to stay hydrated and cool at the same time. By adding a misting function to your current Personal Cooling System (PCS) pump, you can accomplish both with the 2-Liter Hydration Backpack. You can hydrate on the move while enjoying a beautiful, invigorating mist thanks to a drinking tube and compatibility with your current misting system. The Drafter is a superb all-around women’s specialized hydration pack that comes in a variety of unusual colors. It includes a 3.0-liter Hydra-pack hydration pack with the brand’s Phaser bite valve for smooth flow. The back panel is made of suspended mesh, which allows for plenty of ventilation while also providing a space for the DK Impact CE-certified spine protection to sit (sold separately). Women’s Solstice LR 10

Low-Rider Style Hydration Pack

price from
$90.40
Our opinion:

The Solstice pack is a low-rider backpack with a short and broad bladder that keeps the weight distributed low on your hips for enhanced stability. The bladder is accessed through a zippered opening in the back panel, which relieves some strain on your shoulders and back by keeping the weight as close to your body as possible. There are a few tiny organizational pockets in the main compartment, including a zipped mesh pocket with a key keeper and a fleece’media’ pocket perfect for sunglasses or your phone. Snacks may be stored close by in the waist belt’s compartments, and there are also connection points for a full-face helmet and armor.

Promising review:

Used in motorcycle road trip. Good volume of three liters for the drink. Very practical pockets and straps long enough to be worn over my Klim Badlands pro jacket.

Back Protector Women Backpack

$184.07
Our opinion:

The Attack 18 SL is built on a women’s fit and contains the brand’s Shield system, which is a CE-certified back protector composed of viscoelastic foam and is somewhat shorter than the men’s version. The back protection is available in a variety of sizes to fit riders ranging in height from 145cm to 205cm. Compression straps on the side are great for schlepping armor up lengthy fire road climbs, and there’s a stowable mesh helmet bag. The top half of the bag contains a non-slip material to assist stability the bike while carried on your shoulders if the terrain becomes particularly steep. When the weather becomes bad, the bag also comes with a built-in rain cover.

FR Trail Blackline Protector

Stealthy-Looking Hydration Pack

price from
$190.00
Our opinion:

The Blackline is a stealthy-looking hydration pack with a spine protection for those who get a little too wild. It has a large 20 liters of storage capacity. The supplied Lite Shield back protector is constructed of PV foam and segmented EPS, and it complies with TUB and CE requirements. The bag is a BYOB (bring your own bladder) bag that can hold a 3 liter reservoir. The pack is designed to fit tight to the body in order to take use of the back protector, although it does include channeling to allow some airflow over your back.

Promising review:

Fits well, seems really big but isn’t noticeable when on. Had some decent weight in it on the first use, water, jacket and dslr camera along with some tools, tube, pump etc. Bag felt really heavy but once on didn’t notice the weight at all.

Great Build Quality Hydration Pack

Our opinion:

To keep your tools organized, the gear pocket has a zippered pouch near the top, mesh dividers, and elastic loops. The back panel of the backpack is called the Air Director by Camelbak, and it combines foam and mesh to keep your jersey dry and sweat-free. There are helmet carry attachments on the exterior, and the front flap is large enough to contain a rain jacket or an additional layer.

Promising review:

This works very well. Hiking in warm weather most of the day you should have plenty of water. I use it as my work bag as a nurse going to patients homes, so I take filtered water or sweet tea.

Repack LR 4

Waist Hydration Pack

price from
$61.00
Our opinion:

For shorter rides or those who don’t want to carry a pack, CamelBak’s Repack LR is a great hydration choice. CamelBak’s venerable technology, including as the high-flow hose, shut-off switch, and class-leading bite valve, are still present in the reservoir, which contains less liquid. The organization is likewise well-thought out, with a total of six pockets. And, to ensure that everything rides smoothly, CamelBak worked hard to ensure that the waist belt adjustments on the Repack LR stayed tight.

Promising review:

Used for mountain biking. Keeps the heat off of my back and does not bounce around. I pour 2 bottles of water for my rides but can take around half another bottle, maybe more. The magnetic clip for the bite valve and tube works great. Slide up to tale out and just get it close enough to clip itself in. Does not take much to make that work. Enough space for some basic tools, my phone, snacks and a little bit of first aid stuff.

Skyline LR 10

Broad Sized Storage Pack

price from
$107.90
Our opinion:

The CamelBak Skyline LR 10 resembles a combination between a backpack and a bum bag. This may sound unusual, but the pack’s placement on your back, along with a large waist belt, makes it a rock-solid companion. The reservoir holds water and maintains the pack’s center of gravity low. The bladder is decoupled from the drinking tube by a quick-release clip, and the broad hole allows for simple filling. There is 7l of storage space for tools and gear when the reservoir is full.

Promising review:

Better than a hip pak, better than a backpack. This hip hugging low weight pack carries all the needed things for a good mtb ride and won’t move around while you ride or jump. It’s smaller sized, but the way it feels and fits the modern human body is a revolution for backpacks and even better for an action used backpack. Worth the extra money, you will feel the difference.

Women's Chase Bike Vest

Hydration Bladder Vest

price from
$68.00
Our opinion:

The Chase is designed as a vest, although it looks more like a pack. It features a women’s-specific fit that works well and holds the pack in place. Eight strategically placed pockets enable you to rapidly reach items such as food and your phone without having to remove the vest. The Chase can hold 1.5 liters of water and has a total capacity of 2.5 liters. This means that even if the bladder is full, there is still enough place for a light jacket, pump, and other necessities. Enduro and shorter rides would be excellent with this pack.

Promising review:

I have no other point of reference as this is my first hydration vest , but I love this and believe it is worth the cost. The only extra cost for me was a tether my phone, but otherwise it was pretty much fill, pack, and go!! Also, I should mention that I am 5'5" 220 lbs, so this really can be adjusted to fit anyone's size. Love how this is assisting me so well on hikEs

10.
Evoc
Stage 12 l

Comfortable Hydration Backpack

price from
$112.00
Our opinion:

The EVOC Stage 12l bag is more of a rucksack than a hydration pack, although it does contain a sleeve that can hold a 3l bladder and shoulder straps with built-in hose guides. Large, stiff foam parts and mesh paneling across the back make the Stage very comfortable to wear. Over the shoulders, the shoulder straps are comfortable, and the pack is solid even over rocky terrain. There is 12 liters of storage inside, with several compartments and partitions. It’s simple to open and access a designated tool pocket.

Promising review:

It is perfect! My fiancé and I will get plenty of use out of this pack while mtbing. Very sturdy and well made, and it can carry, full face, convertible, and half dome helmets! It DOES NOT come with a hydration pack.
