Every piece of modern technology, from smartphones and tablets to streaming gadgets, needs a Wi-Fi connection. As a result, the wireless router is one of the most essential household equipment that no one seems to mention. The router you pick will determine the network speeds of all of your devices, including cellphones, gaming consoles, and laptops. That’s why we spent dozens of hours sifting through hundreds of routers to find the 10 best in terms of performance. These are some of the best to keep you connected no matter how many devices you have.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Just in case you wonder...

What is the difference between a modem and a router?

A modem receives a signal from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and converts it into a format that your devices can comprehend (if they are connected directly through an Ethernet cable). The router takes the translated signal from the modem and broadcasts it as a Wi-Fi network for wireless connectivity. Both are essential for providing full internet access in your house.

Should I get a cable modem and router combo?

A modem is your network connection with cable internet, and a router makes that connection wireless (or Wi-Fi). It is simpler to keep up with the latest technology if you purchase these gadgets individually. However, when you combine them into a single device, there is a lot less clutter to deal with.

What distinguishes parental control routers from installing parental control software on devices?

Parental control routers operate at the perimeter of your home network to restrict the websites and services that your children can access, making it a simple method to keep your children away from any unwanted contents without the need to install parental control software on every device. However, a parental control router will not allow you to manage which apps your children can install on their devices and use locally, nor how much time they can spend on offline activities such as games.

What are Mbps?

Mbps is an abbreviation for megabits per second. It is the unit used to measure internet speed, which is the amount of data that travels over the connection in one second. For some context, one Megabyte (MB), the unit for file size, is equivalent to eight megabits. So, an 80 Mbps connection is required to download a 10 MB file in one second.

Promising review:

This router is pricy, but it gets the job done. I upgraded from a Netgear Nighthawk. I had tried a newer Netgear router that didn’t work very well. I will stick with ASUS in the future. It was very easy to set up and can handle many devices at high speed and reach all sides of my house.

Our opinion:

NETGEAR’s Nighthawk  X10 can handle rates of up to 7,200 Mbps thanks to cutting-edge tri-band 802.11ad Wi-Fi, which is more than adequate for intensive streaming, online gaming, and numerous simultaneous downloads. As if that wasn’t enough, the quad-core processor prioritizes traffic and handles multiple requests with ease, ensuring that your connection is never slowed.

Promising review:

I need high speed wifi to work from home. My connection is 400mb and it delivers 100% of the speed, even when compared to wired. This was a lot cheaper and cleaner than wiring my home. The setup was super easy with the smartphone app, no tech knowledge needed.

ASUS GT-AXE11000 - Best Wi-Fi Router High Speed: Best for gamers
https://www.amazon.com/

10.
ASUS
GT-AXE11000

Best for gamers

price from
$639.95
Our opinion:

The ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 from Asus supports Wi-Fi 6E, the most recent version of the wireless standard. Most devices do not currently support Wi-Fi 6E, but those that do will be able to access a new 6GHz spectrum quicker than any previously available. In addition, this router is backward compatible with previous Wi-Fi standards. It features a complex, comprehensive app interface with gaming-focused QoS to prioritize network traffic and enhance reliability.

Promising review:

It is a very big router, which wasn't a problem for me, I had room for it. But consider space if you plan to buy this. WiFi signal is very strong and has a very far reach. I am now getting just under the 1gig speeds that I pay my ISP for. Highly recommend if you are willing to pay the high price.
