Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Just in case you wonder...
IS VR suitable for sim racing?
Virtual reality, or VR, is ideal for sim racing. The immersive experience much outperforms monitor-based simulation racing. The degree of realism is also on another level, and the difficulty of becoming a competent racer in VR is considerably greater.
What is the best way to use VR on Steam?
You must download Steam VR and the driver from the Steam website for all non-native VR devices. You must first install the Gear VR application on a mobile device before using this iVRy driver for Steam VR. When you first use this driver, you must choose the launch button to begin so that any other services and drivers are installed automatically.
Can virtual reality headsets damage your eyes?
In a report on Bittman’s case, BBC News said that there is no proof that wearing VR headsets causes chronic eyesight impairment in children or adults. While VR headsets may raise concerns about possible eye damage, they may also help individuals improve their vision. A VR headset can be used to enhance vision under the supervision of an eye care expert.
What is the minimum age for VR?
The minimum age limit for VR gaming is 7 years old, although most headset manufacturers adjust the age restriction based on their technology. The age restriction for SONY’s PlayStation VR is 12 years old. Oculus Rift and Samsung’s Gear VR rate it 13+. Only HTC has no explicit age limits, but it also warns its use for children.
10 Reviews: Best VR for Laptop (Apr 2024)
1.
Oculus
Quest 2
No need powerful laptop
For the most part, the Oculus Quest 2 is the greatest VR headset. Qualcomm’s modern Snapdragon XR2 (Snapdragon 865) SoC proved to be a powerful chip, capable of delivering a wonderful VR experience without the need for a powerful laptop or even a smartphone. Oculus increased the resolution of the Quest 2 to 1832 x 1920 per eye. There’s also a unified panel here, rather than one for each eye, as well as the capacity to hit a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz.
I love the supernatural workout. It is fun, you get your heart rate up and the muscles get a workout. Really the best fitness ever!

Oculus
Go
Incredibly light
The Oculus Go VR headset’s unique movement system is one element that sets it apart. This function allows you to smoothly spin your head all the way around to gain a full perspective of your virtual surroundings, enhancing the immersion of your gaming experience. This gadget is also extremely light. The absence of wires is one of the reasons behind this. This makes the controllers quite simple to operate, and learning how to use them is much more appealing.
[...] if you're going to watch videos you don't have to copy them to your Oculus device! Just enable media streaming on your laptop or NAS. Oculus Go is very good at playing videos over wireless connection from the sources in your network. [...]

Lenovo
Explorer
For a nice fit
The Lenovo Explorer VR headset has a pleasant appearance and is without a doubt one of the best-looking first-generation Windows mixed reality headsets on the market. The adjustment knob on the back of this model, which is part of the PSVR style headsets, allows you to firmly hold the head strap around the back of your head for a tight fit. In terms of build quality, the Lenovo Explorer can easily compete with other high-end PC headsets.

Oculus
Rift S
No errors or glitches
The Oculus Rift isn’t just any virtual reality headset; it’s everything it should be. The touch remote controllers employ a twin sensor tracking system to detect the user’s movement, and they’re surprisingly simple to set up given how well they function. Its ultra-low-latency tracking, together with its highly functional controllers, are responsible for its precise virtual interactions and experiences, with virtually no errors or glitches.
Awesome product! Just do your homework about the IDP, MSI hardware problems, mini display port and laptop support, there is allot of stuff to know before you buy this!

Vive
Cosmos
Inside-out tracking accuracy
VIVE Cosmos ushers in a new era of virtual and augmented reality. This model can improve inside-out tracking accuracy thanks to six camera sensors and the newest software optimizations. It has a wide field of view (FOV) and six degrees of freedom (6DoF) for even more movement freedom. Even better, all-new LCD panels minimize the screen-door effect by reducing the space between pixels.
[...] This device is borderline mobile if you have a gaming laptop that is powerful enough for VR. I have it hooked up to my Alienware Laptop and can take it with me to my University courses. Its great being able to do walkthroughs in Architectural models! [...]

Vive
VR System
Use your own headphones
One of the best features of the VIVE is the ability to use your own headphones, which is something that not many other VR systems offer. This one has 2160 by 1200 OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, as well as a fast touchpad and rear trigger as controllers. With realistic graphics, true-to-life movement, HD haptic feedback, and directional audio, this headset truly immerses you in the gaming experience.
Forget the Oculus, this is true VR! Works well out of the box, however for the best experience make sure to grab a pair of stands and adapters to mount the lighthouses on. Even with my Sager 980m laptop (technically below minimum spec) it works well on most games. [...]

I got this VR headset 2 months ago. I also put a vive facial tracker on it too. It has worked great since i received it. The setup went by great and the eye tracking works great on it. I installed the vive software and i was on my way.

Valve
Index VR Full Kit
Track all five fingers
The pressure-sensitive “knuckle” controllers from Valve can track all five fingers, making them almost like gloves. The HTC Vive, which is likewise based on the Steam VR platform, is mix-and-match compatible with Valve’s devices. The Index headset boasts great audio and a super-clear, wide-field-of-view display. Because the Index relies on external “lighthouse” boxes, you must first set them up in a room.
