We’ve all scrolled down Instagram and stopped at the tantalizing food photos and ended up buying them. That’s the power of food photography. It’s just that, for some reason, when you take pictures of your own food, they don’t look as lucrative as they actually are. There are at least three best angles that almost never fail when applied to food: straight on, 25° – 75°, and top-down. To click an appealing image, you need to place your camera in an appropriate and steady position, which will be tough without the help of a proper tripod. Therefore, we have summarized ten of the best tripods for food photography. Here you go!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Have you known these things?

What is food photography?

From the name, you might guess that food photography is a branch of photography that focuses on creating attractive still life photographs of food. You are correct! Generally, this type of photography made for commercial purposes is used in magazines, menus, recipe books, advertisements, and so on.

What to look for when buying tripod?

First, choose one with high stability because that’s the reason why a video tripod exists until now. Second, consider the material. If you want a lighter one, you can choose one made from carbon fiber. If you want a sturdier one, choose aluminum. Furthermore, the durability is so that you don’t buy multiple times. The rest is on you.

What are the advantages of using a tripod?

To take long exposure shots, you have to make sure the shutter is open for at least a couple of seconds with steady. That would be difficult without the aid of a tripod. You can also shoot a video with you in it at overhead, eye level, or, low angle with ease. Get a selfie without the arm-stretch, especially if your hands aren’t long enough to capture the beautiful scenery behind you. Lastly, you can try a timelapse.

What is the best tripod for me?

There are numerous factors that influence a tripod to be the best. First, from the product itself, of course, the material, stability, and other features. Meanwhile, no matter how great the quality is, it is not necessarily suitable for you. It depends on what terrain you use it, for professional or casual photos, you need a very expandable or pocket-sized one, the answer is on you.

... This tripod is a snap to put my camera on, and I love it. For the first time, I can say I adore a tripod. It is a perfect height for me, and if you need unique heads, you can put your own on for panning or whatever you need. I did not buy this for traveling. I bought this to take the place of my tripod I use for food photography. For me, it is the perfect tripod.

Promising review:

Probably one of the best purchases I have made as a photographer/videographer. Sturdy, easy to adjust and carry, all while still remaining fairly light-weight. I would highly recommend investing in one these; it makes a wold of difference. I'm able to add a large camera slider as well as two fluid heads and this thing is still steady as a rock.

Manfrotto 058B Triaut Camera Tripod - Best Tripods for Food Photography: Adjust all angles individually
https://www.amazon.com/

3.
Manfrotto
058B Triaut Camera Tripod

Adjust all angles individually

price from
$519.00
Our opinion:

We are still with Manfrotto on the next three lists. The Manfrotto 058B Triaut Camera Tripod has the ability to adjust all angles individually. That way you are given unlimited flexibility to take photos from all sides and angles, whether straight on, 25°-75°, or top-down. This item replaces the Bogen Manfrotto 3251and 3051.

Promising review:

This tripod is heavy, but if you have a medium format camera like the Pentax 6x7, this tripod is a requirement. The auto leveling system is really nice. All you need to do to level once set up, is to push on the three little levers next to each leg. Sure beats the old method of having to loosen six different levers in order to level the camera.

Manfrotto 290 Xtra Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod - Best Tripods for Food Photography: 4 leg angles
https://www.amazon.com/

2.
Manfrotto
290 Xtra Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod

4 leg angles

price from
$250.29
Our opinion:

If you are a fan of Manfrotto but want a lighter version, then go for the carbon fiber material. Its features are still as superior as its aluminum cousin. Only, if the Manfrotto 058B weighs 13.56 lbs, this tripod is only 3.4 lbs. But that doesn’t mean this item is weak, instead, it can hold up to 11 lbs. Coupled with its 4 leg angles, which makes photographers more creative in exploring food from all sides.

Promising review:

This tripod has not left my side for two years. I have taken it to several states, on backpacking trips. I've had it in sea water, mountain winds, and taken it apart and put it back together to fit into smaller spaces. This tripod is the real deal, I love it. I have been thinking about buying another one to use for my slider. I always recommend everyone to buy this as their first tripod. It's super solid.

Promising review:

I've been through a few tripods, cheap, rickety, and eventually covered in duct tape. This tripod is sturdy, well made, and solid. I am tall, and can get the camera up to eye level - a first for me. Yes, it's not particularly light, but if you're serious, that's a good thing. This is an excellent choice.
