Being a parent is not easy, especially if the child is still a baby. You are required to always be careful and thorough for everything that comes into contact with babies. This is because their immune system is still not perfect. This is very challenging, especially when the baby is 6 months old. At that age, babies tend to put everything in their mouths. Then it was time for them to led weaning and self-feeding. You have to make sure all the cutlery used must be sterile and clean and free from bad chemicals. On this occasion, we will discuss the 10 best spoons for self-feeding.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Here are the most commonly ask questions!
When should baby self-feed with spoon?
Based on our experience, it is better to get babies into self-feeding the moment when they are starting to walk on their own. Approximately when they are 12 months old or at least 13 months. This is to train the baby’s independence and motor function.
How do I get my baby to feed himself with a spoon?
You can start by giving the freedom to hold their own spoon when they start whining to hold the spoon while you are still feeding them. Then slowly teach how to put the food with a spoon. In the early days, don’t immediately judge the way they scoop or hold the spoon, let them find the best way, but still, you have to provide the necessary direction.
Can you feed a baby with a metal spoon?
It is true that the stainless steel material in the spoon does not contain many bad chemicals that can damage the health of the body. It’s just that, in typical babies, especially if their teeth are still not fully grown, it is not advisable to use metal spoons on babies. This can lead to bruises on their gums and tiny mouths.
What is the best spoon material for baby self-feeding?
The most popular material that can keep harm away from your baby is silicone material. It is best to use silicone since it has a soft touch and sturdy-feeling for gripping. Other than that, you also can use bamboo or wooden spoon material, but it is not advisable to use a metal spoon.
10 Reviews: Best Spoon for Baby Self-Feeding (Jan 2023)
Made with ultra-soft silicone to help prevent bad experience in first-time eating for your baby. This has nice gripping and can scoop any texture of food with decent depth to prevent overly scooping. You can rest assured about its safeties. These spoons are from Beaba that has been around since 1989, offering premium quality baby care products since then. The color available is pleasing for your baby. Not too bright and not too dim.
I had purchased a couple different spoons for my 4 month old to use as he begins eating solids. Based on all the spoons, this one by far is the best! The size of the spoon was great for his mouth, he had no issues shoveling in his rice cereal. I like how they are silicone, it makes for easy gripping and doubles as a teether later on. With teeth coming in, I really felt the silicone was the best choice to not irritate his already sensitive mouth.

Swap is a dual-ended spoon with a soft end and a rigid end. perfect for first-time eaters. Both. sides have a flat tip perfect for wiping off the food that inevitably ends up all over your baby’s face. Easy to clean, has nice look, and not gonna bring bruise to your baby’s gum. Your baby is free to flip it as they like for happy mealtime.
I have some small jars that standard teaspoons do not fit inside. The one baby spoon I have around works with them, but I needed more than one that will work. Therefore, I bought this baby spoon set. The small bowl does indeed fit inside little jars, and I like that one end is silicone and one end is metal. That way, if I think a preserve might stand the silicone side with color or flavor, I can use the stainless steel end instead. Plus, the spoons are long and work well for tall glass jars, too. I've only been using the spoons for a few days, but I'm quite pleased.

Hassle-free from spilling. The Olabbay spoon has better scooping ability. The fun and cute design are best to introduce to your baby about kitchen utensils. It resembles the shape of a sprout and the tip of the spoon resembles the shape of a leaf. The leafy shape of the tip combined with the flexibility of the silicone material allows the spoon to flex. Effectively support every angle of scooping, very suitable for your baby’s first step about taking meals.
The best baby spoons on the market!! Incredibly easy for baby to hold and scoop food with. I was shocked that my 4 month old could use this spoon on her own. She's now 6 months old and we use these multiple times a day. They have a textured handle that makes it easy for baby to hold. The tip bends when baby dips it in the food so she can scoop from many angles- perfect for learners. They wash so easily. I have nothing bad to say about them. I recommend them to everyone and bought them as gifts this Christmas. They're that good!

These spoons are flexible, soft and smooth for babies starting their solids. We started soilds at 4.5 months with my son. The spoon is also very easy to clean and able to scoop small to larger portions that take up the entire spoon. He can grab hold of the spoon easily and try to feed himself. Will be purchasing one more set.

Love the spoons. Had bought a two pack several months ago when I started baby lead weaning with my six-month-old, and like them so much I got a full five pack. Thick food sticks to the silicone of the spoon allowing babies who are trying to self feed to get the food there mountains with minimal loss. Perfect for yogurt. Helps babies learn how to self feed. A little bit big for the mouth until baby was one year old.

The Bumkins Chewtensils Fork and Spoon Set are perfect to help guide little ones to self-feeding. On the back of the head has sensory bumps to stimulate gums. The silicone material won’t cause calamity to your baby’s gums as well as, it is easy to grip for their small hands. This is more for stage one of baby-led weaning. The color will last longer and not gonna fade easily.
I’m a speech therapist and though we didn’t begin EATING real foods at the time, my then-four-month-old son was able to learn how to hold these and practice using breastmilk (dipped in) etc. and just used them dry. I’m not even exaggerating, my 6month old son began feeding himself immediately once we began food. Sure, it’s a bit messy but... he actually knows how to hold these and target his mouth. He LOVES them. I wish I could have 20 pair of these. I tell everyone I know about them. They are fantastic for eye/hand coordination and also for his motor skills. People don’t believe when I say my son truly feeds himself independently.

Self-feeding time is another milestone for a baby’s development. You need to put great attention to every utensil that will be used for their time to start independently, especially at mealtime. This spoon has a fancy and unique design with a good bending ability to support any shape of your baby’s bowl. It designed from 100% platinum food-grade silicone with all edges are soft on the baby’s gums. You cannot use it for food with fluid texture.
Flexible & easy for baby to hold. These starter spoons are wonderful! The baby always grabs the spoon and tries to feed herself when we are feeding her. These spoons are very easy for her to hold, they are soft and flexible, and they hold pureed foods in them (no matter how she holds the spoon). We also purchased "the First Years - First Food Spoons" (shown in picture with these spoons). These spoons are more flexible and seem easier for baby to hold. I highly recommend these spoons! Please mark if you find my review helpful. Thank you so much!

The material is free from toxic, it is amenities for your baby’s delicate mouth.
Got another version of these and I love them, they are super soft but sturdy, and they do change colors, but you need to pay a lot of attention if it's not extremely hot to see the difference.
