Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can space heaters be left on all night?
Nowadays, a space heater can be left on for long periods of time unattended, even while sleeping. However, bear in mind that your heater should be approved by one of the three major testing organizations and include features such as automatic shutoff, tip-over safety, a shut-off timer, and an adjustable thermostat.
Are ceramic heaters more efficient?
A ceramic heater is more effective than other types of heaters because it is typically compact and generates a lot of heat from a small package. Not only that, but it’s much more energy-efficient and safer than many heaters, since their plastic casings remain cool even though they heat up quickly. It’s an excellent option for a small area or a tabletop.
How far away should a space heater be?
The general rule is that it should be placed at least three feet away from anything that may burn, such as papers, clothes, and rugs. Also, keep space heaters away from high-traffic areas and doorways, where they may cause tripping hazards.
What makes a good space heater?
The size of the room you want to heat and the type of heater are the two most important things to consider when choosing a space heater. Not only that, but you should think about features like safety and convenience that could have an affect on how well you use the heater.
10 Reviews: Best Space Heater for Basement (Dec 2023)

1.Lasko
Pedestal Tower
Heater with digital remote control
This ceramic heater includes a digital remote control to help you create the ideal warm environment for your space. It has an elevated nature, and the oscillation ensures that the warmth is distributed uniformly across the room. It’s also equipped with ceramic safety features to keep you and your family safe. As you can see, this heater has a space-saving pedestal design that takes up less than 1 square foot of floor space, making it ideal for a small basement.
Love love love this! I have it in my basement craftroom which can get 10 degrees colder than the main floor. This heats up quickly, oscillates and has a shut off timer in case you’re prone to forget and leave it running.

2.Comfort Zone
Electric Ceramic Space Heater with Adjustable Thermostat
Energy saving settings
With three heat settings to choose from: medium, high, and energy-saving, you can create a comfortable atmosphere in your room. The Energy Saving Technology was created for this heat to help you save energy and lower your heating costs, so it won’t break your wallet even though you use it for a long time. What’s more, the thermostat and a secure overheat safety sensor work together to keep it from being too hot.
Love this quiet little heater! My home office is not connected to the central heating system, so an Ohio winter requires some supplemental heat -- not just an open doorway to the rest of the house. This little ceramic space heater heats the space quickly, quietly and is booked as an "energy save" appliance. I especially appreciate the safety switch that automatically turns off the heater if it is upset.

3.Lasko
Electric Ceramic Oscillating Space Heater with Digital Display and Remote Control
Built-in safety features
With an automatic electronic thermostat, two heat settings, and an 8-hour auto-off timer mode, you can easily change the temperature to suit your needs. A multi-function remote is also included, allowing you to control all heater functions with ease. You won’t have to worry about safety when using this heater because it has built-in safety features including overheat security and a cool-touch exterior.
It is that time of year when the temperature drops and parts of the house get really cold. This tower heater solves that dilemma. It is light weight and can be moved from room to room. It has a remote, so you do not need to move to change the temperature or make it oscillating, I rarely use the timer function. The heater blasts heat, but it really is quiet compared to my old ones.

This ceramic space heater, which produces abundant heat without open coils and is long-lasting, provides instant warmth to your space. There’s no need to be worried about noise when using this heater since it’s built to be a low-noise heater that emits about 30 decibels while in operation, so it won’t interrupt your sleeping, resting, reading, or working. Furthermore, the adjustable thermostat and three heater modes with a fan; high heat, low heat, and fan only, ensure that you can achieve the ideal warm atmosphere.
This heater performs well. Even in low heat mode it will warm up a smaller room in no time at all. On high, it rocks. The thermostat can keep a consistant temperture in the area.

It will make your home look more contracted, atmosphere, and warm because it comes in a classic design that can be used in any place in your room, including your basement.
I live in the basement of my house and it’s very cold all year long. This radiator heater has helped me stay warm when my room gets unusually cold. It’s very quiet, easy to use. I can set the temperature from 65 to 85 degrees and set a time on how long it runs. The best thing is it comes with a remote control, I don’t need to get up to adjust the temperature if needed.

6.Lifesmart
Large Room Infrared Quartz Fireplace in Burnished Oak Finish w/Remote
Energy efficient heater with infrared light wavelengths
Lifesmart is here to provide a smart heater that will not only provide a warm and comfortable atmosphere but will also provide warmth without the high cost of heating an entire house. Instead of heating the air, this heater uses infrared light wavelengths to target people and objects. This function keeps the room’s current humidity level and does not dry out the air. As you can see, this heater has a stylish design with a Quakerstown dark oak cabinet and mantel, making it ideal for use not just in the basement, but also in other rooms.
I bought this fireplace for additional heat in my 750 sq ft basement and I must say I am very impressed. I debated this purchase for years and also whether to purchase this or a quartz heater or oil filled radiator type heater. I chose one of these units because I also wanted some ambiance to go with the heat. This unit has the high, low, and eco setting and we usually set it to low or eco and it takes the chill off of that large space wonderfully. The interface on the unit is very accessible and user friendly and as a bonus the remote is just as user friendly. For supplemental heat and a very nice ambiance I don't think you could beat this unit for the price! I would purchase again in a heartbeat.

7.Duraflame

This heater, like the previous one, has a realistic 3D flame effect that makes it pleasing to place in your space. With five customizable brightness levels, the flames dance on and behind the logs, giving the illusion of being in front of a true wood-burning fireplace without the mess and hassle. It has infrared quartz heat to maintain natural humidity, overheat protection to prevent overheating, and an adjustable digital thermostat to enable you to control the temperature of your room.
This is a cute little electric stove. Make sure that you check out the measurements before you order. I bought it for my utility room in the basement, and it gives my basement utility room a lovely glow and cozy warmth. I also love the remote control. You can use the "fire" without the heat if you choose. The knob on the door is super cute, and when you open the glass door, you can see the thermostat and the other digital numbers that tell you the temperature, the time setting (how long do you want it to run), and the flame intensity (see photo). I chose this particular stove because of the glass sides. I thought that was prettier to see the flame by three sides. ...
