To make the most of your time outdoors, the sleeping bag you choose for camping or trekking in warm weather must be lightweight and comfy. So you don’t become too hot at night, look for a bag made of moisture-wicking fabric with plenty of breathabilities. A zipless design allows for better airflow, keeping you cool while sleeping. When it’s freezing outside, you’ll need a bag that keeps the heat in but doesn’t retain your body heat during the day. You should also consider how much space you’ll need to move around and how drafty your tent will be – these considerations will aid you in selecting the best sleeping bag for warm weather. To help you save your time, here are our top 10 list of the best sleeping bag for warm weather. Keep reading!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are there sleeping bags for warm weather?

Summer sleeping bags are not as insulating as winter sleeping bags because they are meant for usage in hot weather. Due to the lack of lofty insulation, they are the lightest of all seasonal sleeping bags and pack down remarkably tiny.

What is the best type of sleeping bag for warm weather?

The best sleeping bags for hot weather should include a full-length zip that allows you to open it up if you are too warm or stick your legs out the bottom. When it comes to sleeping bags, breathability is often disregarded, but down has the highest thermoregulation capabilities when compared to synthetics. Wool blankets are also very breathable and are sometimes used instead of a sleeping bag.

What do you do if your sleeping bag is too hot?

Between your sleeping bag and the ground, place a sleeping pad. The weight of your body compresses the fill (insulation) beneath you in your sleeping bag, increasing conductive heat loss to the ground. A sleeping pad will successfully protect you from this heat loss while also providing you with greater comfort than the hard ground!

What to look before buy a sleeping bag for warm weather?

1. Temperature Rating
The European Advisory Group produced a regulatory standard for sleeping bags in 2005 that applies to all producers. Other countries of the world have adopted these temperature ratings, which are expressed in terms of “comfort” levels.

2. Material
When purchasing camping equipment, one of the most important considerations is the material that best meets your needs. Synthetic fabric or down are used to fill most sleeping bags. Synthetic-filled sleeping bags are considerably superior to down-filled sleeping bags for traveling to warmer climates.

Our opinion:

Snugpak’s Softie Sleeping Bags use space-age technology in the shape of a highly permeable metalized barrier dubbed Reflectatherm (Softie 3 and Antarctica only) to provide a temperature rating that exceeds expectations. The Softie Premier filling is extremely insulating, retaining heat, and providing maximum comfort. The anti-snag zip has a full-length baffle, the mummy-style form is designed for warmth and comfort, and the quilted, snug fit hood has an adjustable cord, ensuring a pleasant night’s sleep even when the temperature drops. Reactor Insulated Sleeping Bag Liner

Superlight Sleeping Bag for Hot Climes

Our opinion:

The Sea To Summit Spark Sp I is a superlight sleeping bag for hot climes that packs down so compact you won’t think it’s a sleeping bag at all. The Spark Sp I is about as minimalist as it gets, and it’s small enough to use as a sleeping bag liner on winter adventures. On humid nights in the tent, the ULTRA-DRY Down and Pertex shell assist to repel moisture and keep you warm. The Spark Sp I may be the finest warm weather sleeping bag for you if you’re seeking the lightest alternative.

Promising review:

"This was amazing - I added it to my 35 deg. sleeping bag and nights were in the 20s and I was comfortable (and I get cold EASILY). I like the cinch cord at the top for fit, and it can absolutely serve as a summer or warm weather sleeping bag. Light weight and packs down easily, too."

Mummy Style Sleeping Bag

Our opinion:

This polyester-made Mummy-style sleeping bag with a temperature rating of 55 degrees is ideal for backpacking and other activities that take place in the great outdoors. It features SpiraFil high-loft insulation, which provides optimal warmth and durability, and features a temperature rating of 55 degrees. Full-length, locking, two-way YKK zipper with an EN rating that indicates the wearer will be comfortable in temperatures as low as approximately 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

Promising review:

"I love everything about this bag except the color! It’s super lightweight, soft and comfortable, packs tiny, and is affordable. The comfort rating is 60 degrees F, and I usually get really cold, so I was worried, but I camped at altitude at a low of 45 degrees and it was fine! I was in a tent with 1 other person, plus I have a very warm..."

Sierra Designs
Backcountry Bed 20 Degree Sleeping Bag

For Unpredictably Warm Weather

price from
$279.95
Our opinion:

The Sierra Designs DriDown Backcountry Bed 600 Sleeping Bag features an integrated comforter that helps you to be warm while also allowing you to open the top for air. Sierra Designs sleeping bags are as comfortable as they appear, with enough upper body space to sleep on your back, side, or front — or a combination of all three on restless nights! You can go even lighter with the 2-season version of this bag, but your options for where you can use it are limited. For unpredictably warm weather, this is a fantastic 3-season sleeping bag.

Nemo
Disco Insulated Down Sleeping Bag

Provides More Room for Your Knees

price from
$259.95
Our opinion:

The NEMO Salsa is a three-season spoon-shaped sleeping bag made for backpacking in hotter areas. If you sleep sideways, the shape is a mummy/rectangular hybrid that provides more room for your knees and elbows. This is a comfortable bag to not only sleep in but also to laze around in, thanks to the stretch construction and stitching. The 650 FP down from NEMO is extremely light and will keep you warm on cold evenings while also regulating your heat on hot nights. An adjustable hood, pillow hole, and zippered valuables pocket are among the other features.

Promising review:

"Great bag, I have the large size, very comfortable with lots of room to toss and turn. I’m 6’ 3” 245 pounds and this is the only bag I have owned that doesn’t make me feel claustrophobic! Great weight and size for serious back packing."

The North Face One Bag Sleeping Bag - Best Sleeping Bag for Warm Weather: Easy to Use Sleeping Bag
https://www.rei.com/

6.
The North Face
One Bag Sleeping Bag

Easy to Use Sleeping Bag

price from
$300.00
Our opinion:

The One Bag is a multi-purpose sleeping bag. It’s a bit of a misnomer because it’s not just one bag. Instead, it consists of one lower half and two detachable upper halves with temperature ratings of 5, 20, and 40 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this is a well-designed bag with every element working properly. The bag is spacious in the interior, making it easy to use. The bag’s cost is kept low thanks to the synthetic stuffing. Down filling the bag would have made it lighter, but it would have increased the price. This bag’s versatility at a reasonable price makes it one of the best buys you can make.

Promising review:

" So warm and cozy. I love the versatility of this bag, I brought it to Joshua Tree expecting it to be cold and was able to remove a layer when it turned out to be a bit warmer. One bag to rule them all!"

Forte 35 Sleeping Bag: 35 Degree Synthetic

Open and Spacious Space

price from

Our opinion:

Another popular sleeping bag for warm-weather camping is the Nemo Forte 35. The Forte is a good value option because it has a reasonable price and good features. The Forte is exceptionally comfortable and has a long-lasting build. The Forte is either spoon-shaped or hourglass-shaped. The shape is open and spacious. It is looser in every way than a traditional mummy – shoulders, hips, and feet. Thermogrills for ventilation is also included in the Forte, extending the bag’s temperature range.

Promising review:

REI Co-op Helio Sack 50 Sleeping Bag - Best Sleeping Bag for Warm Weather: To Prevent Overheating During the Night
https://www.rei.com/

8.
REI Co-op
Helio Sack 50 Sleeping Bag

To Prevent Overheating During the Night

price from
$79.95
Our opinion:

REI’s sleeping bags are gaining a lot of acclaims. They have a variety of wonderful sleeping bags, and one of them is the REI Co-op Helio Sack 50°F. The shell is made of recycled polyester and is quite robust. One long and one short zipper runs the length of the bag. The lengthy zipper totally unzips to reveal a quilt. The short zipper doubles as an armhole and a vent to prevent overheating during the night. The sleeping bag is semi-rectangular in shape or has a relaxed mummy shape to it. It has enough space inside to not feel cramped. The backpack also packs exceptionally small and is ideal for light travel.

Promising review:

"I have had the sleeping bag five years and camped with it multiple times. I have used it all the way down to 30° but it holds up well to its 50° rating.
It works well with a liner and is super light so it washes up and packs up very easily..."

9.
Big Agnes
Lost Dog Sleeping Bag: 45F Synthetic

Has a Sleeping Pad Sleeve

price from
$169.95
Our opinion:

The Lost Dog is a hoodless sleeping bag that may be used as a primary sleeping bag in warm weather or as a backup in cold weather. It has a sleeping pad sleeve and recycled synthetic insulation. The synthetic insulation in the bag performs better in rainy situations, delivering warmth even when damp, something down cannot do. This synthetic insulation is made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled polyester, making it environmentally friendly.

Promising review:

"I?m a hammock camper and this bag is awesome for summer nights...Very durable, my dogs have laid on it, I?ve gotten it dirty and it has held up to it all. Zipper is nice and big and doesn?t get snagged very easily. When it does it?s very easy to pull out without damage. Highly recommend"

10.
REI Co-op
Magma 30 Sleeping Bag - Men's

Gives Excellent Warmth

price from
$349.00
Our opinion:

The REI Co-op Magma 30 is another REI inclusion on this list, although it is a higher-end alternative than the Helio Sack 50 listed above. However, when compared to other bags with equal performance and features, the Magma is still a better value sleeping bag. The Magma is filled with 9.7 ounces of 850 power goose down. This fill is of great quality and, despite its little weight, gives excellent warmth. The Magma weighs 1.2 pounds, which is surprisingly light for the amount of warmth it gives.

Promising review:
