Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Just in case you wonder...
Is it safe to shave pubic hair?
Pubic hair removal is a matter of personal choice. In reality, there are no health advantages or risks associated with removing pubic hair. However, if you have a chronic illness, check with your doctor to see if there are any specific reasons why you shouldn’t shave your pubic hair. If you develop folliculitis or other infection symptoms, contact your doctor.
How often should I shave?
This varies from person to person, depending on your natural hair growth. In general, we suggest shaving every two to three days if you want a clean shave; every three to five days if you only want to style or trim; and simply stop shaving if you want to let your hair grow.
Does shaving make hair grow thicker?
This is perhaps the most popular myth to date. What you should know is that shaving does not cause hair to grow back thicker. Hairs are cut at a blunt angle when shaved, giving the impression of dark hair when, in fact, the hair is just cut at a cross-section.
How to shave properly?
– Wet your body before shaving to help soften your skin and hair.
– Apply your preferred shaving cream to your skin to provide a “thin barrier” between your skin and the razor blade.
– To avoid razor bumps and ingrown hairs, shave in the direction of hair growth, using short strokes.
– Rinse the razor after each stroke to avoid product buildup between shaves.
– After shaving, dry your razor and store it in a dry place to prevent bacteria and yeast growth.
10 Reviews: Best Shaving Razor for Beginners (Mar 2024)
1.
Gillette
Mach3
For burn-free shave
The Gillette Mach3 Men’s Disposable Razor for Sensitive Skin is not an ordinary razor. It cuts all of the hair with ease using three increasingly aligned blades. Unlike conventional razors, which only cut facial hair after a few strokes, this razor just needs one pass to get a clean shave. It contains mineral oil and lubricating polymers, which soothe the skin and provide a smooth, razor burn-free shave. Excellent for beginners.
These are the best razors I've found. I have very sensitive skin, and a very rough beard that literally grows in every direction. I hate the ones that pivot easily. These last at least 4-6 shaves before getting to dull. Much better price here than at Walgreens.

Equinox International
Straight Edge Razor
It won't tarnish or rust
The Equinox Professional Straight Edge Razor is constructed of high-quality stainless steel that will not tarnish or rust over time. With its ergonomic design, you can hold the blade at the perfect angle. This is a huge benefit for beginners since it trains you how to shave properly. It also comes with 100 single-edge Derby blades, with each blade providing up to three shaves, ensuring that you will receive at least 300 shaves before needing to replace the blades.
If you are not sure if you are willing to learn how to use a straight razor, but would like to try, this is the unit for you! Inexpensive, but not cheap. I was amazed at the shave. I simply could never go back to safety razors. This was how real men shave. Once you try it, you will see why!

It provides a great grip
The Weishi Nostalgic Long Handle razor has a classic butterfly open mechanism that makes loading your blades a breeze. The long-handled razor provides a great grip and enables a clean, pleasant shave. As long as you hold the razor at the proper angle, the weight of the razor will perform the majority of the job for you. Along with the handle, you get five stainless steel blades, so the razor should last you more than a month.
This razor changed everything. I have been looking to try this method for awhile. Went with this one because of the high reviews. Totally worth it. Feels like I had a professional shave. Perfect for beginners.

Built to last
The Vikings Chieftain safety razor is based on classic safety razors that will last for decades. It is built with strong construction and strict quality control, and it exclusively utilizes high-end materials from Europe. The razor has a unique anti-misalignment mechanism that guarantees the blade is properly placed into the razor or the head will not close. Good for a beginner who doesn't want to spend a ton but also doesn't want cheap crap. Solid design and the butterfly mechanism works nice .its hard to find anything made in USA , but I feel this will still last a lifetime.

Edwin Jagger
Double Edge Safety Razor
Balance weight distribution
The DE89 is a two-piece safety razor with a standard chrome finish and a short grip. The handle’s length is ideal for beginners, at 3.3 inches. This safety razor’s weight distribution is such that it feels perfectly balanced while shaving. The closed-comb design, on the other hand, implies that the beginner’s skin will be less exposed to the blade, and the shave will not feel as harsh.
The design is where this excels. While very affordable, the shaves you get with this will be as good as multi-hundred dollar razors. This is due to an intelligently designed head that gives perfect blade exposure and perfect angle. This is not only perfect for a beginner, it's pretty much a razor I consider a "must own standard" in every shave den.

Parker Safety Razor
99R
Simple blade change
The Parker 99R is a well-known safety razor. For individuals who are concerned about adjusting to the blade change procedure, this butterfly razor retains the basic double-edge, closed-comb head that is ideal for beginners. This razor’s handle is textured for a more comfortable grip, but it’s rather long, at 4 inches, so it’s ideal for people who know they prefer a long handle. This pick also includes five blades to get you started.
[...] Build quality - Top notch: The butterfly hinge action is smooth and works great, holding the blade in place perfectly. The long handle and heft of the razor makes shaving easy, even for a beginner like myself. [...]

Supply
The Single Edge 2.0
Three different base plates
The Supply razor comes with three different base plates, allowing you to choose the degree of aggressiveness. Plus, its wide, smooth grip makes it very comfortable and pleasant to use. Its injector blades are easily accessible and come in a convenient dispenser, allowing you to inject them into the razor head without endangering your hands. This option is a little heavy, but it’s easy to handle and provides a really close and pleasant shave.
New to using single edge shaving; there is some learning curve but it isn’t too hard. The shaver has an excellent weight to it and the quality of the finish on each of the components is very nice. I went with the jet black finish. This is well made and I’m enjoying the shave.
