Our opinion:

When it comes to young adult adventures, there aren’t many like Panda Ray. Thankfully, there is a God. The Hero’s Journey is becoming old to me. Chris Zimmerman may be a mutation or an extraterrestrial. Both ways, he’s in trouble because he continues telling his fifth-grade class about his journeys through time. His mother is outraged when she discovers that he has taken family vacations. He will be scooped out of the water to get rid of him. As a result, he and Gramps can flee on a spaceship. After that, things take a bizarre turn.

Promising review:

"The book lets it be played out what would happen in various levels of reality and existence if a 10 year old boy with absolute power took over the world ... it's a pretty cool read. "

Our opinion:

Suddenly, Miranda, a skeptical high school sophomore, is terrified when an asteroid knocks the moon closer to Earth, as though “one marble strikes another.” Tsunamis sweep the globe, shaking the continents, and obscuring the sun’s rays with volcanic ash. Miranda, her two brothers, and their mother find refuge in their sunroom as the weather turns cold and dark in northeastern Pennsylvania in August. There, they rely on food and water stored in their sunroom and stay warm by the fire.

Our opinion:

Aaron Soto, 16, is still looking for happiness following his father’s suicide. With Genevieve and his hardworking mom’s help, he’s slowly remembering. His anguish and smile-shaped scar keep him from forgetting. Aaron spends all of Genevieve’s absence with Thomas. Aaron’s gang isn’t happy. Despite problems with his fiancée and friends, Aaron can’t deny the enjoyment and safety Thomas offers him. Aaron can’t stay away from Thomas or turn off his affections for him, so he explores the Leteo Institute’s memory-altering technique, even if it means forgetting who he is.

Our opinion:

Thomas only remembers his name when he gets up in the lift. He is surrounded by a group of strangers who have also lost their memories. A never-ending labyrinth stretches out before them, surrounded by high stone walls. Only a few people have attempted it, and none have succeeded. Then a young lady shows up. The first-ever female to hold the title. Moreover, the message she conveys is terrifying: Remember. Run to safety.

The Giver

An Incredible Science Fiction Book

price from
$8.99
Our opinion:

The Giver is set in a utopian society that becomes dystopian. “Sameness” has eliminated sorrow and turmoil from the community but also emotional depth. Jonas, 12, is chosen to be the Receiver of Memory, who retains all the memories from before Sameness in case they are needed to make judgments. Jonas fights with his dystopian society’s truth. The Giver is on numerous middle school reading lists and the American Library Association’s list of most challenged books of the 1990s.

Our opinion:

Candor (honesty), Abnegation (selflessness), Daring (bravery), Amity (peace), and Erudite are the five factions that makeup Beatrice Prior’s society (the intelligent). Choose between staying with her Abnegation family or moving sections. Beatrice must decide. Her decision will astound her family, friends, and even her. Keeping her identity a secret is a priority because being different is considered a danger in this world.

The Girl With All the Gifts

An Awesome Science Fiction Book

price from
$9.38
Our opinion:

The Girl With All the Gifts is an excellent zombie novel. It’s cerebral and sometimes compassionate, yet a fast-paced thriller. Melanie is imprisoned in a windowless bunker in post-apocalyptic England. When they leave their cells, they’re muzzled. No adult may touch them. These are fair measures given to these children. The installation is attacked, freeing Melanie and numerous adults who want her alive, dead, or dissected.

A Wrinkle in Time

An Extraordinary Science Fiction Book

price from
$6.99
Our opinion:

The book has been in print since 1962, so presumably, kids liked it. It was on the American Library Association’s list of the 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 1990-2000 at number 23 due to references to witches and crystal balls, the claim that it “challenges religious beliefs,” and the listing of Jesus “with great artists, philosophers, scientists, and religious leaders.” Who knows, you might find this book entertaining? Read it!

The Hunger Games

A Survival Science Fiction Book

price from
$12.99
Our opinion:

The Hunger Games shows a terrible society that attacks the hero. In the ruins of North America, Panem’s Capitol is surrounded by 12 districts. Districts once fought the Capitol and lost. Each section agreed to send one boy and one girl to “The Hunger Games,” a live televised fight to the death. Katniss Everdeen, 16, views representing her district in the Games as a death sentence. Regardless of terrain, rules, or audience participation, kill or be killed.

Our opinion:

Binti is the first Himba to be accepted to Oomza University, the galaxy’s best University. Unfortunately, taking the opportunity would mean leaving her family to travel between the stars with people who don’t respect her ways. Binti will pay for knowledge, but her road won’t be simple. Her world has long been at war with the Meduse, a terrifying alien race. Binti’s stellar voyage will bring her within the Meduse’s lethal reach. Binti will need her people’s gifts and the University’s wisdom to survive a conflict she didn’t start—but first, she must make it there alive.
