While a pop filter may not be the most glamorous or exciting addition to your podcasting gear list, any expert would agree that it is an important element of the overall setup. A pop filter’s purpose is to prevent pops (also known as “plosives”) created by air flowing quicker into a microphone when particular consonants are uttered. If you’ve ever heard an impassioned speech magnified by a standard microphone, you’ve undoubtedly heard something similar, and although it may not be a nuisance at live events, it may be quite damaging in podcast production. These are the most effective pop filters for your podcast!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is a pop filter?
Pop filters, sometimes known as ‘pop shields’ or ‘pop screens,’ are devices that protect your computer from popping noises created by ‘plosives’ in your computer’s audio. Plosives are the sounds produced when harsh consonants, such as the letters ‘p’ or ‘b,’ are spoken.
Why is your microphone popping?
When you move your lips to enunciate these plosive letters, a quick burst of air pressure occurs, which might cause your microphone to ‘pop.’ These popping noises might be magnified if you stand too near to your microphone. This is known as the proximity effect, and it occurs when plosives contact with the diaphragm of your microphone to generate an output signal.
How does a pop filter work?
A pop shield acts as a barrier between you and your microphone, intercepting plosive noises before they reach the microphone’s diaphragm. The pop filter prevents annoying popping by uniformly spreading the abrupt airblast so that it doesn’t overwhelm your microphone. They usually consist of one to two layers of acoustically semi-transparent material stretched over a circular frame, such as woven nylon or metal mesh.
How far from my mic should I place my pop filter?
Mic technique is difficult to master, and the solution to this issue is dependent on the speaker’s preferences. The pop filter should be at least 4 inches away from your microphone, and you should be between 1 and 5 inches away from the pop filter, according to standard practice.

VO: 1-A-PF Metal Mesh Pop Filter
Silver Pop Filter
The VO: 1-A-PF Silver Pop Filter is a great match for your microphone. It clamps directly onto your microphone, and the elegant wrap-around vintage design harkens back to Abbey Road Studios’ golden days, while reducing plosives and protecting the microphone’s diaphragm. It offers a clear, transparent sound and is simple to clamp on.

Auphonix
Pop Filter Screen for Microphones
Dual-layer Pop Filter
Auphonix’s 6-inch pop filter is incredibly popular and well-reviewed. The microphone pop filter does not restrict sound or degrade the clarity of your speech thanks to a dual-layer mesh screen. The pop shield for microphones reduces background noise while improving audio quality. Mounted on a completely rotatable and flexible arm. Any studio area, height, or angle may be accommodated by the microphone filter.
it is exactly what I needed. Well made and works perfectly, It is designed to clip onto the edge of a desk, but it will clip easily onto the desktop stand that comes with the Blue Yeti Pro. It also works when clipped onto a microphone stand.

Musician's Gear
Double Pop Filter 6"
Excellent Filter System
It has a two-stage filter system: the first screen diffuses the air that creates plosive consonants, the free space between the screens disperses air pressure, and the second screen disperses the air and eliminates any leftover plosive consonants, according to the manufacturer. The screen is 6 inches in diameter, and the gooseneck is 13 inches in length.
It's a pop filter, and it happens to be a very good one. I've used this for teleconferences, audio books and coaching sessions, and I've been very pleased with this inexpensive addition. I noticed I was occasionally getting some nasty Pops from my plosive sounds in my recordings despite using a windscreen. This took away the problem and as a bonus it cuts out a lot of breathing noises and allows me to close mic any mic I own.

Harlan Hogan Signature Series
AVANTONE PS-1 PRO-SHIELD Studio Pop Filter
Broad Coverage Pop Filter
Avantone manufactures a metal grill-shaped pop filter that wraps around a microphone for a broader field of coverage than spherical filters. The pop filter has the same gooseneck and clamp as other pop filters, so it connects in the same manner. However, the broader screen and curved shape enable you to move around the mic a little more without worrying about plosives.
I got this for my husband for his birthday. He does a podcast on audio recording and making music. After making a couple of episodes, he decided that a pop filter would be a good addition to his collection of recording equipment. He gave it a try this weekend while having a recording session with some of his friends. He was very pleased with the quality of the product and how well it worked for blocking the plosives of his singer.

Samson
Microphone Pop Filter (SAGTPBF1)
Stainless Mesh Screen Filter
This pop filter’s construction makes them can be used with mics like the Blue Yeti, Rode NT-USB, and Audio Technica AT-2020. The filter is attached to a microphone by a flexible band that wraps around the mic’s neck rather than a clip and gooseneck, thus it works well with wider-bodied microphones and has a more compact design and fit than some other screens. The mesh screen is made of stainless steel and is of excellent quality.
What it there to say really. It fits perfectly and it filters much better than the cheaper black mesh pop filters. While this is close to double the price, the quality is doubled as well. It pops into place and doesn't weigh down the mic or the arm of the stand compared to a previous filter that came with the mic. Eliminates pops and other disturbances to the overall sound quality as expected.

Dragonpad
USA Microphone Pop Filter
Large Double Layer Pop Filter
This DragonPad filter is on the bigger side, with a diameter of around six inches and a double mesh layer, which is preferable than other filters that just have a single layer of mesh available. The metal gooseneck and mounting clamp are designed to be used with a wide range of microphones.
A few test recordings quickly confirmed it: this filter will not only clean up your Ps and Ts, but it actually clings to the mic well (see pics). It hasn't fallen off or slipped once since being attached - which also only takes seconds, and requires no additional components to affix. Time will tell how well it holds up, but for the price and ease of use, I have zero complaints, and a mountain of thanks.

Blue
THEPOP Universal Pop Filter
Universal Pop Filter
Look no farther than The Pop from Blue if you’re looking for a universal, well-made pop filter from a well-known brand. The Pop filter can work with practically any microphone with a screw on clamp, including Blue’s own microphones like the Yeti and Snowball. Blue has made clear video instructions to illustrate the best technique to attach the pop filter on each microphone type, despite the fact that it requires some adjustment to operate with the Yeti and Snowball.
I bought the pop filter alongside the Blue Yeti, and I was not disappointed. I tested the mic with and with the pop filter and it definitely came in handy for improving audio quality and eliminating harsh sounds from the audio tracks. The filter is easy to install with whatever base you may have, assuming they are compatible of course. A pop filter is necessary for anyone attempting to free up their audio from harsh crackling sounds, and you really can’t get any better than Blue products.

Stedman
Proscreen XL Pop Filter
High-End Pop Filter
The Stedman Proscreen XL is a professional sophisticated pop filter that can be used by both singers and podcasters. It is definitely a higher-end alternative. The 6 inch screen diameter and 13 inch gooseneck are both well-made, durable, and among the best pop filters available. In any event, if plosives are a problem for you and you want one of the greatest items money can buy, the Stedman is the way to go.
I've never been compelled to go *out of my way* to review a product on Amazon. This is different. I spent hours editing out plosives, pop, and clicks from my prior fabric pop filter. One night, I got so frustrated while editing I bought this product in a passionate rage in the heat of the moment. Now - listening to the difference - it's amazing. I'm likely to spend at least an hour less time editing tonight due to this filter rocking the air control around the mic.

Nady
SSPF-4 Spider Shockmount
Pop Filter with Shockmount
If you prefer a neat recording environment, the SSP4-4 combines a shock mount and a pop filter into one convenient compact. With its 8-point suspension installation, the shock mount lowers undesirable low-end rumbling, while the metal-manufactured pop filter excellently protects against plosives. Nady has created a fantastic design. The curve of the pop filter allows for productivity in a fashionable all-in-one packaging.
I'm loving this pop filter! It looks professional in design, and feels very sturdy on the mic stand. The built in shock mount is definitely a plus. I like it because some beginners try to grab the mic in the studio when recording vocals. This immediately let's them know to just speak into the microphone. Also offers the option of removing the pop screen if you want.

MPF-6 Clamp On Microphone Pop Filter
Best Value Pop Filter
With over 1,500 reviews on Amazon and a stellar reputation among recording pros, the Nady MPF-6 is a very popular pop filter. It’s one of the few low-cost pop filters that experts believe delivers on quality, and it’s known for its huge screen, high-quality clamp, and sturdy, thick gooseneck that stays put. Overall, this is a dependable pop filter that is recommended for anybody who need a standard pop filter.
This is a very inexpensive and apparently well-made device. It has a good, secure mount which will not damage the mic stand and does not loosen accidentally. The filter itself seems to do the job in preventing plosives on vocals; some say that a nylon filter may affect the vocal timbre but I didn't notice that at all.
