Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
In case you don't know...
How often should you apply bug repellent?
The duration of insect repellents ranges. Some offer protection for up to 12 hours, while others only offer protection for a few hours. Read the label carefully to establish how long the formula will last, and reapply as needed, depending on the situation.
What ingredients should you look for?
Bug repellents are made up of a variety of active ingredients. According to the EPA, DEET, picaridin, allethrin, permethrin, citronella, and oil of lemon eucalyptus are efficient insect repellents. Some of these compounds are more powerful than others at repelling specific species of insects, so be sure you pick one that is specifically made to repel the bugs in your area.
How do mosquito repellents work?
Mosquitoes use their sense of smell to locate a blood source which is readily available. Repellents are applied to the skin, where they dissipate and suppress the sense of scent, effectively making you invisible to mosquitoes. They may still come across you as they soar through the air, but they can’t actively track you down just on the smell of your blood.
What to look for when buying mosquito repellent?
Consider the following:
1. Ingredients, there are five major ingredients used; Essential oils, picaridin, DEET, permethrin, and IR3535
2. Longevity: Make sure you select the one with the appropriate longevity.
3. Ease of Use: Choose from wipes, lotions/balms, sprays, or even just setting up a piece of technology to see which one best suits your needs.

Aura Cacia
Atlas Cedarwood Essential Oil
Pleasant Scent Cedarwood Essential Oil
Starting with Cedarwood essential oils, which have a pleasant scent for humans but aren’t so pleasant for mosquitoes. It’s antiseptic, insecticidal, and antispasmodic. You can use cedarwood in a combination with other oils to repel pests and treat bites with a carrier oil.
I use lemongrass to make my own bug repellent! I used a 2 oz. spray bottle filled with water, used 20 drops of lemongrass, 20 of peppermint and 20 of eucalyptus essential oils. Shake it up and spray on your shoes and clothing! Reapply when necessary! I use it mainly for ticks, black flies and mosquitoes! Works well for me!

Geranium oil protects the skin from premature aging, stimulates healing, and keeps bugs at bay as well as provides a delectable aroma. And one of the top geranium essential oil brands is NOW. They conduct comprehensive testing to verify purity, and their rates are often among the most competitive on the market.
This smells exactly like geraniums, so make sure you like geraniums beforehand! Very distinctive scent. Cannot mistake this for anything else. I love the health benefits but I mostly using it in the diffuser and in candles to keep away insects. Works extremely well. I pair it with lemon essential oil which helps cut the intensity of the geranium oil and makes it much more palatable to me

Radha Beauty
Rosemary Essential Oil
Essential Oil in Cobalt Blue Bottles
Rosemary repels mosquitos and aids in the healing of bites. When you need to keep mosquitoes away from your grill-out, try diffusing three drops of rosemary with three drops of peppermint. And, Radha Beauty delivers the essential oil in cobalt blue bottles with a dropper, as you can see.
I love this brand. Very affordable, tends to last a long time, and the dropper already comes assembled. I know that’s weird to point out, but there’s another cheaper brand out there that has an unassembled dropper, and you just can’t get the plastic out of the cap to put it all together. The quality isn’t terrible. It’s not the richest nor strongest but for the price it’s actually a good quality.
