As a result of being on the lower end of the scale, the Kelvinator has a medium-range fill-power. It’s a little bulkier, but that’s offset by the fact that it has a lower fill power, so it still keeps you warm. The drawcords at the hem are more effective than the elastic banding around the hood, which doesn’t always hold up against high winds. This jacket is light, but it’s also big, making it tough to layer.

I got a large but I easily could’ve gotten a medium… Personal preference…
Warm and comfy… In extra cold weather I’ve been using it as a mid layer… Great!

The Positron Pro has a mid-weight, excellent fill power, and lots of storage. While it isn’t the lightest jacket, it isn’t too bulky, which gives it bonus marks for mobility and style. The hood is helmet-compatible and has a wired peak and drawcord that can be adjusted. Water is repelled particularly efficiently by the Pertex Endurance outer covering and hydrophobic down.  RAB consistently produces high-quality goods, and this one will keep you toasty on the slopes!

Absolutely love the Rab positron pro quality fit and warmth. This is a piece I would have no problem selecting for cold environments such as Iceland in November. This jacket should be considered for 2020 gear of the year based on the quality and performance. Highly recommend this jacket.

The Quasar is another ultralight jacket.  It has a wide range of motion and can be carried simply in its own pocket stuff pouch. It also has a carabiner loop that can be attached to a harness or pack.  Since the down isn’t treated, you’ll want to stay out of the rain and have a good shell.

This marmot jacket is light weight yet stops the wind and keeps you warm. The wet look / shiny finish is sexy yet practical. Fit is superb and comfort is top notch!

Mountain Hardwear’s Nilas were designed for and used by speed climber Ueli Steck, which gives you an indication of their intended function. It has a lot of fill power and is hydrophobic. This jacket has standard storage space and a complete range of hood and hem adjustments. Thumbhole cuffs provide a bit of extra coverage to your hands while also keeping the sleeves from riding up. The thumbhole cuffs, on the other hand, maybe a little tiny, not quite fitting around the base of your thumb. 

Lightweight, warm, fits great. And no issues with the zipper.

Overall, Outdoor Research’s Transcendent is a less expensive option, It has a 650 fill power and no hood, thus it has a lesser fill power. The collar is lined for added warmth around the neck. The material is robust, yet there is enough room for mobility inside the arms. The zippers are very long-lasting. The hem may still be adjusted, and the cuffs are bound.

This is a super-warm, hyper-light jacket. Have had it out with air temps in the low 20's and have stayed toasty.

This jacket is a popular option, with a mid-range fill power and a durable, treated shell fabric. It has a baffle design that traps more heat. The additional layers of cloth for added warmth across the shoulders, as well as the YKK zipper, make it stand out. If you’re carrying a backpack, the shoulder layer may also aid give cushioning. 

Got this as a gift for my boyfriend, he loves it! It has been keeping him super warm through the cold Park City winter. He loves the fit of the coat and it has held up nicely through his tough love.

The Arc’teryx Cerium Hoody is a down jacket that is stronger, sleeker and has more storage. Despite the fact that it has four pockets, it still fits inside a stuff bag. The hood is waterproof due to synthetic insulation.  The synthetics add weight and make the jacket less compressible, but they also offer warmth.

Good Arc'teryx jacket, it is definitely a true to size fit. Gave it as a gift and although they haven't used it for harsher weathers, it is lightweight and warm for cold weathers.

If you’re looking for the lightest down jacket available, the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer is the best option. Mountain Hardwear claims that this jacket is the world’s only real 7 denier by 10 denier fabric, with an astounding 800-fill power duck down. The cuffs include elastic binding and the hem can be adjusted. This minimalist model is ideal for cold-weather physical activities, although it is not as warm as some of the heavier jackets on the market. It’s easy to layer it for further warmth and to preserve the denier outer fabric.

I've had it for a couple months in Colorado. it's a great light jacket for shoulder seasons or insulator for snow sports. definitely recommend.
