It does put off some heat, but since the table sits up a bit higher, you only feel the heat if you are standing over the fire table.I bought this mostly for ambience and it fits the bill perfectly!

There is a river 4/10 of a mile away and I'm considering putting one down there as it would be nice to go down, have a fire, cook stakes or warm up beans etc and hot dogs by the river.

Absolutely as advertised -- my husband searched this out and requested it for his b day, and it is an absolutely-not-regret purchase. Sheds a lovely amount of fire and heat. We live nearby our neighbors in a suburban neighborhood, so we did not want something that dominated the block. It is light but extremely sturdy -- not sure how they did that, but it perfectly balances those two. Elegant design, yet rigid. Great with youngsters and adults, family gatherings. Seriously -- a no-regrets purchase, a what-took-us-so-long kind of buy. Enjoy.

Compact fire pit for my patio. It will be very easy to set up and clean. The mesh cover will block any fires coming out and the stick will come in very handy to maneuver the firewood. I wish it also came with a cover. I would be willing to pay 5-10 more if it had a waterproof cover with it.
