Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What do you put in the bottom of a fire pit?
Start with a layer of sand at the bottom of your fire pit and then layer on gravel, lava rocks, fire pit glass, paving stones, or even bricks on top of the sand to finish out the design. Dirt may also be used as a substitute for concrete.
Can fire pit get wet?
The answer is yes, they are sensitive to being soaked. However, moisture that accumulates within a propane fire pit may interfere with the operation of the gas burners, preventing the fire pit from lighting and causing corrosion to the equipment.
What is fire pit used for?
A fire pit may be utilized in the same way that a regular campfire can: whether you want to cook a barbecue, toast some marshmallows over an open fire, or just have a warm and comforting source of light that enables you to spend your evenings and nights outside for a change.
Can you put a fire pit on grass?
Fire pits may be placed on top of the grass in an upright position. It is possible, however, that the grass may suffer substantial damage if the essential safeguards are not performed. A mat or other protective material should be put under the table to avoid damage.
10 Reviews: Best Fire Pit For Camping (Nov 2023)

1.Ajna Living
Mansfield Fire Pit
Glass Fiber Fire Pit
The Modeno Mansfield fire column, which is constructed of glass-fiber reinforced concrete, comes with a stainless steel burner ring and pan as standard equipment. The fire feature is intended to be used in conjunction with a liquid propane tank that is housed inside the base underneath the fire feature. This fire pit has a wood-like design, which gives you a sense of being in the outdoors when you are using it.
We had this delivered to our home. My husband installed a drain/vent pipe combination underground based on some other users input. Assembly was straightforward using the upturned ring as a template for the first (base) circle of stones. After the third row was placed the ring (right side up) fitted perfectly. It looked great!!

3.FIRESIDE OUTDOOR
Pop-Up Fire Pit
Foldable Fire Pit
Look no further than this fire pit from Fireside Outdoor, which is made of wood and can be set up quickly. The fire pit can be assembled in under a minute without the need for any tools, and when it’s not in use, it folds up into a small carrying bag, making it very portable and convenient. Even better, you may use charcoal as fuel as well.
This thing is awesome! Absolutely love it. Used it several times this year and now bought one for in laws who camp a lot. Folds up small like a camping chair. The air flow from underneath makes starting the fire easy as ever and burns almost completely gone by morning. I bought the heat shield as well. It works but is not necessary unless you are trying to preserve grass underneath or using it on a table. Wife likes the heat it puts off underneath so she can warm her feet.

67836 Portable Steel Propane Gas Fire Pit
Attractive Design Fire Pit
Bond Manufacturing’s gas-powered portable fire pit has almost 1,300 five-star reviews on Amazon, with customers praising it for being both attractive and useful. The steel-framed fire pit comes with a cover, fire stones, a tank holder, a gas pipe, and a regulator and weighs less than 20 pounds. While the majority of customers indicated they use it on camping vacations, others have made the sleek fire pit a permanent fixture in their backyard.
Recently purchased a new camper. I wanted a camp fire without all the hassle of hauling wood, building a fire, and the billowing smoke. If this is you, order this yesterday! The "rocks" that come with it heat up and glow red like coals when heated. It is perfect. I haven't cooked over it but I have plans to in the near future. I've already had friends purchase one and they love it as well.

5.Rootless

When not in use, the lightweight outdoor necessity may be stored in a thin, compact bag that is convenient to carry about with you. This firepit can contain enough wood for many fires of various sizes. With stainless steel netting that is both environmentally friendly and anti-heating.
I like this more than I thought I would. I initially bought it because I had to have one at a campsite I was planning to visit. It works so well, burns all the wood with good ventilation mesh and is sturdy too. Now I use this unit in place of the campsite fire pits which are usually wet and you have to make a bonfire to get any heat out of them. With this unit, just a few logs go a long way. Easy to assemble, easy to clean and fold away for next time!

6.Solo Stove
Ranger with Stand Portable Outdoor Fire Pit
Complete Burn Fire Pit
Look no further if you want to spend on a top-of-the-line portable fire pit. This Solo Stove Ranger option is designed to create low-smoke flames so you may enjoy a warm fire without the haze. The stainless steel fire pit comes with a carrying container and a stand to keep it off the ground. The top vents burn out the little particles that would have become smoke in a more complete burn. It also means that you won’t have to deal with any half-burned logs with this smokeless fire pit or indoor fire pit.
Very, very happy with this purchase. This stove creates a fire in minutes. I use a cotton ball dipped in Vaseline to get it started with kindling. The stove is lightweight, portable, has a carrying case, and leaves no mess because it completely cremates the wood. The way it’s made carries air through the appropriate vents to ignite and stay lit. We’ve even used it during a light drizzle and windy conditions and it still started up for me. You could use it at the beach. It’s not very big but a party of 8 can sit around it and roast things. I’ve even cooked chili with it for our hot dogs.

7.Radiate
Portable Campfire
Disposable Fire Pit
Consider purchasing this disposable alternative from Radiate if you like sitting around a fire but don’t have the room to keep even the smallest portable fire pit. The portable campfire burns for three to five hours and has a pleasant non-smoky aroma. It also only weighs 4 pounds and is 8 inches in length, so it won’t take up much room in your suitcase. Radiate is as easy to ignite as a candle and produces very little soot or embers. Avoid the hassle of gathering firewood or the danger of running out of propane on your camping stove.
I really like campfires and fire pits but I recently moved to a place where I don’t have anywhere to use/store a fire pit or outdoor grill. This product works out perfectly. Easy to light, generated heat, doesn’t smell or get smokey, and extinguishing is easy. I think after the flame has gone out it’s best to remove the lid so that the wax can cool quickly so you can move/store it. Takes about 30-40 min for wax to re-harden. When you extinguish you don’t have to fully replace the lid, just cover to snuff out flame.

8.UCO
Flatpack Portable Stainless Steel Grill and Fire Pit
Porable Grilling Pit
This UCO foldable alternative is just 3.3 pounds and folds flat to fit into a small carrying bag. The stainless steel portable fire pit is available in two sizes, both of which can be put up in less than 30 seconds. It also includes a built-in grill, allowing you to prepare your favorite recipes. This fire pit has a table base for safe cooking, as well as grill sidewalls that act as a windbreak.
I absolutely love this mini grill. It folds flat, slides back in canvas case and takes up no room in my camp kitchen. I am tent camper but plan on going fulltime for couple of years in a Class B. Just what I needed for limited space. I have cooked foil dinners, steak, burgers, chicken quarter with great results. 6 or 7 pieces of charcoal keeps it hot for several hours. The simple piece that lets you take the hot grate off has worked great. I have the mini size which is perfect for one. I have camped for 50 years and this is by far the best grill design I have seen and weights almost nothing.

9.Inno Stage
Stainless Fire Pit
Smokeless Fire Pit
If you like sitting around a fire but are concerned about inhaling smoke, Inno Stage’s smokeless portable fire pit may be the correct choice for you. The gadget has side handles for convenient carrying and a revolutionary double-wall construction that creates efficient flames without smoke. This fire pit is made of solid 304 stainless steel and has a lovely form. It is high temperature resistant and corrosion-resistant. It also helps this pit look great and endure a long time, making it safe and sturdy to use for years.
My goal was to have a portable non gas fueled fire pit. I wanted one that could be used for 30-60 minutes and did not have to have one babysit it for 2-3 hours. Wood pellets work best. If you follow instructions of starting with 2 inches of pellets you can get about 20-30 minutes of flame before you have to add more pellets if you want a longer flame time. The problem with loading more pellets is that if you reload too many they will smoke until they generate flame again. I found that loading about 4 inches of pellets makes the flame go for 60-70 mins before dying out, which meets my needs. I also found that the smaller size of duraflame log fits nicely inside the chamber and will burn for 60-90 mins. Overall I am quite pleased with this product.

10.Amazon Basics
34-Inch Natural Stone Fire Pit
Fire Pit with Mesh Grate Cover
This fire pit is a great example of what a basic fire pit should look like, with its circular form and mesh grate cover. It’s light enough to go to the beach or camping, weighing just 12 pounds. The grate cover is a useful safety element that allows you to enjoy a fire even if your campground has severe fire regulations. During the installation of this fire pit, no tools are necessary. With stabilizing feet for secure installation, this pit is effortlessly moveable from one area to another.
This is perfect fit for the Solo Stove Bonfire Stove with the stand base. Just leave out the center fire dish that comes with it and drop in your Solo Bonfire. (I didn't use the adjustable screw-on feet) The fire screen cover fits perfect over it when your done for the evening to prevent any flying as or sparks. The table is very sturdy (50 lbs) and well built. It's an excellent accent and also keeps anyone from accidentally touching the fire stove.
