It’s easy to have a mundane existence, but when you’ve read a few fairy tales, life starts to take on a more interesting tone. The following is a list of some of the best fairy tale books for young adults. You have the option of searching for the option that satisfies your requirements most completely. Alternately said, it does not matter what the new genre is; you are required to adore the list because it will introduce you to an entirely new universe.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Some matters to discuss

What are the purpose of fairy tales?

The purpose of fairy tales, like the purpose of all stories, is to entertain, but this is only a secondary goal. In contrast to the novels of today, their primary objective is to impart a lesson in a manner that will remain in the minds of the readers. They are here to impart a very specific education.

What are characteristics of fairy tales?

Bring in elements of the fantastic or fictitious. It is common to have characters with clearly defined good and bad sides. Has to do with magical beings or things of some sort.

Why are fairy tales good for young adults?

Their themes include triumph over hardship, overcoming poverty to achieve success and the importance of having a strong character. Additionally, fairy tales are incredibly moralistic in their depiction of right and bad. As a rule, their punishments are harsh and comprehensive, based on the ancient practice of an eye for an eye.

How fairy tales affect our lives?

For youngsters, fairy tales can teach them how to deal with conflict, desire, and relationships in a healthy way. This can have a long-term impact on their health, quality of life, and even their beliefs in the future, according to Jungian interpretation.

Cinder

A Cinderella Retelling Fairy Tale Book for Young Adults

price from
$12.98
Our opinion:

Marissa Meyer’s debut novel in her Lunar Chronicles series is a retelling of the fairy tale Cinderella. The story takes place in New Beijing, a city that is inhabited by both humans and android phones. The novel written by Meyer was the first book published in the series. Because Cinder is both a robot and a part of a lower social class, the fact that she falls in love with Prince Kai inevitably results in a great deal of conflict in the kingdom.

Promising review:

"I am hooked from the first book! I love the unique way this series approaches the fairytales we all know and love! I would recommend for anyone who is a sci-fi, fairytale, or futuristic world fan!"

The Wrath & the Dawn

A Mistery yet Fairy Tale Book for Young Adults

price from

Our opinion:

The Wrath and the Dawn are different from Renee Ahdieh’s previous short fiction. If you’re just aware The Arabian Nights from “Aladdin,” starts with a sultan who executes all his women on their wedding night. Until he marries Scheherazade, who tells him cliffhanger stories every night. In the end, Shahrzad seeks retribution for all the women the murderer has slain. However, she falls in love with him.

Fables: Legends in Exile

A Fairy Tale in a Comic Book Series for Young Adults

price from

Our opinion:

This comic book series, which is also available in the form of a graphic novel, is an incredible combination of dozens of distinct stories. The mysterious district of New York City known as Fabletown serves as the backdrop for the noir-style tale. The long-running series has some content that is better for older readers. However, the way it is written and the beautiful artwork make it a great choice for people who don’t like to read.

Promising review:

"If you enjoy a good story and good graphics, this is for you. Reminds me of some of the old tales from the crypt stories but not as dark."

Our opinion:

An alternate 19th-century Europe serves as the setting for this rendition of “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” by the Brothers Grimm. One of the original twelve princesses of the palace must learn why they must dance till their shoes fall apart each night. A young soldier (who also happens to be knit!) takes on the task. In the book, you’ll find knitting ideas for teens who want to combine reading with a pastime.

Our opinion:

This spin-off, by the same author who wrote Ella Enchanted, which was a retelling of “Cinderella,” combines both the Snow White tale and Cyrano de Bergerac. Aza is described as being just ugly in Levine’s story, but she also has an incredible singing talent, which is highly treasured in her realm. She is also capable of illusion or projecting, her voice. Queen Ivi, who requires Aza’s magnificent voice to maintain her reputation, is extorting money from her.

Our opinion:

Briar Rose, which is a part of Yolen’s Fairy Tale series, is another retelling of “Sleeping Beauty,” but this time it focuses on the relationships inside a family. Rebecca, the protagonist, has never failed to be captivated by the extraordinary tales that her grandmother has told her about Briar Rose. But Rebecca’s grandma’s last words, “I am Briar Rose,” sent her on a quest to find out the truth about her family’s past.

Grim

A Short Stories Compilation by Famous Authors

price from
$1.75
Our opinion:

The 17 authors in the anthology of retold fairy tales are mainly based on Grimm. They include Ellen Hopkins, Julie Kagawa, Amanda Hocking, and Malinda Lo. Many authors bring the Grimm stories’ tone and gore back. Sometimes violence feels needless, yet it’s often justified. Some stories will be more popular than others, but the variety of tone and approach should please genre enthusiasts. Many authors have never retold a fairy tale before.

A Science-Fiction Fairy Tale Book for Young Adults

Our opinion:

Even while Alice in Wonderland isn’t strictly speaking a fairy tale, the fact that it contains so many fanciful elements does seem to make it a good candidate for a retelling. Alyss Heart was the rightful heir to the kingdom in Wonderland until her aunt Redd murdered both of her parents. As a result, Alyss was forced to escape to the world through the Pool of Tears. This is a nice one for boys because it has a lot of action and some science fiction elements thrown in.

Promising review:

A Long Long Sleep

A Narrative Retelling of Sleeping Beauty for Young Adults

price from

Our opinion:

Sheehan’s retelling will be rather redeeming for anyone who has ever grumbled that “Sleeping Beauty” is a little bit, hmm, passive. When Rosalinda Fitzroy is abruptly awakened by a kiss and finds that she is the heir to an interstellar empire, she has been in a medically induced condition of slumber for 62 years. Even those readers who initially dislike Rose admit to being pleasantly pleased by how she changes during the narrative.

Girls Made of Snow and Glass

A Perfect Snow White Retelling for Winter

price from
$14.37
Our opinion:

Unlike Forest of a Thousand Lanterns, this Snow White retelling isn’t a walk in the park.  Humanizing malevolent witches is a common theme in each of these tales. The “good” Snow White persona and the “evil” stepmother queen alternate in Girls Made of Snow and Glass. In this male-dominated kingdom, both protagonists are attempting to find their own agency and love, while battling each other. For those long, dreary winter evenings, this is the perfect book.

Promising review:
