Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Have you known these?
What factors need to be considered when purchasing an e-reader?
First, decide what screen type you prefer; a paper-like display or a typical LCD screen? Each has its own perks, so adjust your needs. After that, so that your reading is not disturbed, choose products with long battery life. Size and weight will also affect your reading experience and portability. What is no less important is what format the device supports because it’s useless to have unlimited resources but cannot access them. We leave the rest to you.
What is the difference between e-reader and tablet?
A tablet is basically a cellphone with large size. With a tablet you can do various things, such as browsing, chatting, playing games, watching movies, taking photos, and the list goes on. Meanwhile, the e-reader was created with a special mission, namely to facilitate the reading of electronic materials.
What is e-ink?
Electronic ink technology produces a low-power, paper-like display for e-readers. The screens are matte rather than shiny, which removes any glare from the source of lights so you can read longer without eye strain. Compared to LCD, e-ink is also more energy-efficient. It’s no wonder that most e-readers can last for weeks on a single charge.
How much should I spend on an e-reader?
Good news for all of you, especially if you are on a budget: prices for ebook readers have fallen considerably across the board. This means that you can get the device at an affordable price. Most e-readers are priced around $200 with pretty decent quality.
10 Reviews: Best E-Reader for Library Books (May 2023)

1.Barnes & Noble
NOOK GlowLight 3
With night mode
In the midst of a pandemic that forces many public places to close, it will be very easy if your device can access the local library. NOOK GlowLight 3 makes it possible. This e-reader is equipped with a night mode which is nice to the eyes, making it suitable for nighttime reading. The exterior has a soft-touch finish for easy grip, avoiding all minor accidents due to slipping. It is also equipped with a page-turning button which means you can read faster single-handedly.
Barnes & Nobel did a fantastic job with the Glow Light 3. It's light, easy to use, easy to read, better battery life. I love night mode and it doesn't strain my eyes. Yes I tried the Kindle......but I always come back to b&n. like how flexible it is. I can check out library books, purchase books from Barnes and Noble, but ibooks from Apple, or books from Google Play. I like that it fits in my purse or backpack and is easy to carry and lightweight but my favorite feature - is the adjustable lighting. Thank you Barnes and Noble, I love this little gem.

Kobo is one of the most popular electronic readers in the community. What makes it superior is that it supports numerous formats so that it doesn’t limit your references. One of them is e-books from the public library. Moreover, the device provides the perfect light no matter where you are. No need to turning on the lights and waking your partner up if you want to read in the middle of the night.
I love the easy access to Overdrive and eBooks from the library. This ereader is a great size for taking with me anywhere.

The Kobo Aura provides a backlight for easy nighttime reading without the need to turn on the lights. The screen uses e-ink which is soft and safe for the eyes, no matter what time it is. The battery lasts up to six weeks on a single charge, reading will not be interrupted at all. It’s also waterproof, which means fewer accidents to worry about.
very light weight, stores lots of books, and good for reading in sunlight. Had some problems as I thought I needed to go through a PC to download BC Library books, untill I realised that with the wifi, it is super simple, just like a tablet. VERY HAPPY

Kindle Paperwhite
The fave of many
The Kindle Paperwhite has long been a dream for booklovers. Unlike most e-readers that come in black, this one offers four fun colors, complete with nine cover options. It makes a great gift for your bookdragon buddy! You can access any book on your TMR list as well as a library collection without leaving the house. What’s more, the waterproof feature lets you read anywhere; even when taking a shower.
The Kindle reader is an excellent device. Once a book is downloaded (free from your local library using the Overdrive app) it can be read anywhere! It is thin enough to pack in your carry on and can be read at airports as it needs no further wifi connection. The lighting is perfect to be read in the brightest of sunlight, even at the beach. It is thin and has a very long battery life. I have left it in my beach bag for days and it is still charged and ready when I am. The best part is the font can be enlarged for easy reading. Also, once the book is read it automatically returns without a need to go to the library!

5.Barnes & Noble
NOOK GlowLight Plus
Enjoy the podcast
Next, we have NOOK GlowLight Plus by Barnes & Noble. Enjoy more story with the large screen with expanded bookish delight. You can adjust the warmth of your reading light, making reading more satisfying and less painful for the eyes. On top of that, you can listen to the stories behind your favorite books directly from the author via the B&N podcast.
I love the new Nook Glowlight Plus! Previously, I had the 2015 version of the Nook Glowlight Plus and I loved it. I did not think they would make one even better--but they did! I love the size, page turn buttons, waterproof aspect and warm lighting at night. I also really love that this is the black plastic material. While I loved the sleekness of the old Glowlight Plus, it was a little slippery. Although the new one is a lot bigger, it is so much easier to hold. This is definitely the best B&N ereader! I have purchased books on here and downloaded library books. I have not used B&N podcasts yet. I am hoping that they add an option to download audiobooks from the library on here.

Kindle Oasis
Refreshes the eyes
No more red eyes from staring at the screen too long. Kindle Oasis works like an oasis that’s green and fresh thanks to its latest e-ink technology. You will be given a sensation like reading a physical book with an adjustable warm light that you can shift from white to amber. Enjoy a huge collection of books, newspapers, and audiobooks at your fingertips.
The weight and fit in my hand are perfect - I use an Ayotu case. It's easier to read than the printed page, in any light, and OK if it falls in the bath tub. One of the many things I like about Kindle is that it will look up any highlighted word for you - great if you lose track of who the characters are in a book. I don't even mind the cheery little suggestions for other books by the same or similar authors. There's really a whole library to browse in there.

7.Kobo
Forma
Large screen
In terms of design, this device appears similar to other products. It’s just that this one has a larger screen at 8 inches. Kobo Forma features ComfortLight PRO, reducing blue-light exposure so you can continue to do your nighttime reading with peace of mind. Most importantly, it features built-in OverDrive which means you can connect to your local library. Find the book you desire and choose whether to buy or borrow it.
My favorite ebook reader. In our household we have multiple devices. Some Kobo and some are kindles. The Kobo Forma is my favorite. It has a large scree, it is fast, and it is light. I love the fact the text rotates as you rotate the Forma. Oh, it is also water proof but so far I didn't have a chance to test this feature. I also like the fact that I can checkout ebooks from my library directly from the device.

Kindle Voyage E-reader
Adaptive front light
What’s great about Kindle Voyage is its adaptive front light, whose brightness changes automatically based on the light situation around you. This is great news for avid readers who are ready to devour good stories in bright sunlight or total darkness. In order to support your hobby, this device is equipped with a battery that lasts weeks, not hours.
My first e-reader and I'm liking it. Happy for the auto-lighting feature that dims or brightens depending on the light around me. Also thrilled with the smallness and light-weightness of it. I'm reading longer than I did when holding a book because it rests so well on things - arm of chair, lap, etc. And with the cover I bought from Omotion, it doesn't slide around. Really like that I can borrow e-books from the library and have them loaded to the kindle - FREE! Yep, I'm liking this after years of thinking I'll never stop reading paper books.

9.BOOX
Note Air 10.3 ePaper
Perfect for note-taking
You can’t possibly annotate a book you borrow from the library when it really helps you remember important points. Luckily, BOOX Note Air with a sleek and smart design facilitates note-taking or even doodling without destroying books. Note Air can give you a hand to make you stay focused and read effectively.
The build quality is great. If you are looking for an e-ink device to replace physical textbooks and notebooks, the Note Air is probably it. I appreciate the split screen option (read on one side, take notes on the other), Kindle app support, and web browser.

10.BOOX
Max Lumi 13.3 ePaper
Working on limitless area
Last but not least, BOOX Max Lumi comes with a whopping $900 but you get what you pay for. Any documents can open a full page with widescreen support so you can focus on reading rather than zooming in and out. The 13.3 inches screen provides a limitless area for reading, writing, or sketching. The good news is, this device now supports a PowerPoint presentation. There is nothing to lose, isn’t it?
I ordered directly from Boox, which is why the purchase doesn't appear as verified. The light is even and and provides excellent contrast with sharp text. In addition, the writing experience is excellent. I returned my Max 3, which did not have a light and I'm glad I did. The Lumi is also more zippy and has a new firmware update. PDFs really shine with this device because you get the full A4 format, which means it sizes the same as an 8.5x11 hard copy (no annoying pinching and zooming needed). Reading my books and newspaper apps is an amazing user experience. Expensive, but absolutely worth it.
