The display takes some getting used to since the e-ink takes longer to refresh than an LCD or OLED display on a phone or tablet, but the battery life is great, and having Bluetooth is nice to listen to audiobooks."

If you just want to read, the Kindle Paperwhite is unquestionably the best e-ink tablet available. Not only does the latest edition have a waterproof design, making it one of the top tablets for reading outside, but it also has an easy-to-read e-ink font that you can change to the size you want. It features adjustable brightness and is Wi-Fi enabled, allowing you to access Amazon’s huge eBook store.

"The e-ink really does feel like you’re reading a paper book, and the backlight doesn’t hurt the eyes and is only necessary if you’re reading in bed when it’s dark, etc. No color, of course, so textbooks, graphic novels, and children’s picture books aren’t going to look great on this."

The Kobo Nia is an entry-level e-reader with a 6-inch Carta E Ink display. It isn’t very bright in direct sunshine, but the adjustable front light is useful for late-night reading. There are some additional no-nonsense specifications on the Kobo Nia, such as 8GB of storage, a very long battery life, Wi-Fi, and a dedicated e-book store. You may also transfer files from your PC to the Nia e-reader.

"Easy to read and use. Had an older Nook and this one was easy to set up and download my library from my older Nook. With the added backlight feature I will enjoy this Nook even more. I appreciate the free books Barnes and Noble make available too."

"Reading on an e-ink screen is vastly superior to reading on a normal tablet (like a Fire or iPad). It is much easier on the eyes, in a well-lit room, or in the dark. The screens are fast now, so page turns aren't the problem they originally were. If you read prose, a Kindle is a great device."

The Kobo sage offers an 8-inch glare-free HD E ink Carta 1200 screen. The Kobo was one of the first e-readers to provide functionality for a stylus. The text is quite crisp because of the 300ppi quality, and you’d never guess you weren’t reading a real book. The Sage has a flat-screen with a big bezel, and its rippled back makes it comfortable to use one-handed. The bezel contains two buttons that may be used to flip the pages, similar to other Kobo e-readers. Turning the pages with the buttons is quick and responsive.
