The pour-over method is relatively the most controllable and enthralling of all the various ways to brew coffee. It’s enchanting to see steam rise from freshly ground coffee, and it’s also great to be able to play around with the whole pouring process. While the Best Coffee Beans for Pour Over may be a matter of personal taste, there are certain beans that are particularly well-suited to the technique. If you are still trying to find the best or you want to switch from the coffee beans you are currently using and are not sure where to start, this list will help you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

In case you don't know ~

How long can coffee beans sit out?

It’s one thing to speak about how long a cup of freshly made coffee can be kept fresh. There is a great deal of discussion about this, but in general, you can leave coffee beans out for 2 weeks before you notice a difference in flavor, but they will continue to taste good for another 3 months after that.

What are the 4 types of coffee beans?

1. Arabica: A type of coffee grown in North America that has a sweeter, more delicate taste and is less acidic.
2. Robusta: The most widely grown type in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This bean’s name accurately describes its taste profile, which is robust and often harsh.
3. Liberica: It’s an uncommon find. It smells like fruit and flowers and has a “woody” flavor.
4. Excelsa: Mostly grown in Southeast Asia, has a tart, fruitier taste and is noted for showing attributes of both light and dark roast coffees.

How to choose coffee beans to buy?

Well drinking coffee is all about figuring out what you like and sticking to it. Knowing that Arabica and Robusta are the most popular and affordable types, consider how you want to consume your coffee – hot, iced, with or without creamer? If you’re a coffee enthusiast who prefers a simple fresh, hot, black coffee, a light Arabica bean would be an excellent option. The most important thing to remember is that it’s all about figuring out what works best for you, so experiment and have fun!

Where are coffee beans produced?

The Bean Belt, which is the region surrounding the equator between the Tropics of Capricorn and Cancer, is where the majority of the world’s coffee is grown. A large section of Central and South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia are included in this area. Coffee beans grow within a “cherry” that grows from these plants, which is then harvested.

Our opinion:

This is a brand of beans that have been professionally picked and roasted to give the best morning wake-up call possible. It’s a light-medium roast with a rich chocolatey taste, precisely what you need for a great morning cup. The coffee is roasted in Portland and comes from South and Central America. The result is a rich coffee with flavors of praline, raisin, and chocolate.

Promising review:

WOW - Still loving this coffee. If you like the description of the coffee, you will LOVE this coffee! I just tried one bag at first, now I'm ordering two bags about twice months. I MAKE SURE I NEVER RUN out of the Founders blend. One time I almost ran out. Guess I was really worried I started ordering two bags to make sure I NEVER RUN out!

Our opinion:

This is one of the greatest pour-over coffee brands on the market. You can’t go wrong with this coffee to start your day. It’s a medium roast with a chocolaty flavor. It’s best prepared using the pour-over technique, but any other way should do. Africa and South America are the origins of coffee. The company is fair trade certified, which means they actively work to ensure that everyone involved in the process, from the farmer to the consumers, receives a high-quality product.

Promising review:

Augie's Coffee
House Blend

Wet-Processed Beans

price from
$17.35
Our opinion:

Augie’s House Blend is frequently updated to ensure that only the freshest coffee from the best harvests is delivered. Currently, the House Blend is made up of a blend of two Colombian bean varieties: Casturra and Castillo, both from the Giraldo area. To keep the fresh tastes at the forefront, the beans are wet-processed before being gently roasted. For a well-balanced cup of coffee, the result is a taste profile that blends sweet chocolate with the subtle acidity of green grapes, and a pour-over is a great way to appreciate these opposing flavors.

Peet's Coffee
Luminosa Breakfast Blend

Fruity and Flowery Notes Bean

price from

Our opinion:

The Colombia Luminosa was Peet’s first trademark blend with a mild roast. Luminosa is a Colombian word that means “shining” or “bright,” and it is unquestionably the distinctive element of this lively mix. They combine high-altitude beans from the Huila area of Colombia’s highlands with beans from Ethiopia. The former adds a smooth, sweet flavor, whereas the latter is noted for its fruity and flowery undertones. The end product is a delicately balanced wine with sharp acidity, creamy flavors, and a light body. It has a strong sweetness to it, with flavors of apple, cherry, and a hint of chocolate.

Our opinion:

This Lavazza classic medium roast is a great example of an excellent coffee.  This option, on the other hand, lacks oily ingredients. This means you’ll have to pay extra attention to make sure your grounds are evenly wet and removed. However, when it comes to enhancing taste, this Medium Roast from Lavazza does well.

Promising review:

You can make a strong cup with this, and it's very smooth and not bitter. I liked the variety with the yellow stripe on the bag better (maybe called Santa Maria), but this is still very good. I like it nearly as much as Illy, but it's a lot less expensive. If you like your coffee strong but not bitter, this is probably the best brand you can get at this price point.

Our opinion:

We enjoy this Costa Rica Tarrazu from Fresh Roasted for those looking for a unique taste but aren’t crazy about anything too bright or acidic. It’s a great choice due to the obvious unexpected honey overtones that balance out the more basic chocolate flavor. Furthermore, because this is a standard medium roast, you can expect very little oil.

Promising review:

I love this Organic Costa Rican coffee! The flavor is very rich with hints of chocolate and cherries. Very smooth. I love the 2 lb bag, so I’m not running out every week. The bag reseals well to keep the freshness and flavor in. I’m very happy with this coffee.

Robust Bean Coffee

Our opinion:

Next up is a dark roast from Real Good Coffee, based in Seattle. This is an excellent choice for those who want a robust black roast. While this roast lacks the fruity notes found in the Volcanica, it is an excellent example of dark roasting done to perfection. You’ll be able to enjoy a richness that hints at a raisin flavor, as well as a slightly sweet aftertaste, not just because you’ll be able to reliably make a robust cup of evenly extracted coffee.

Promising review:

For 20 years I have searching around the globe for the best coffee at an affordable price. I grind the beans fresh every morning with a burr grinder. I use filtered water and strive for that perfect cup. Although not the ultimate dream cup, this is the best Coffee for the price I have ever drank.

Our opinion:

This coffee is distinctive in that it is prepared from wild coffee beans, giving it distinct flavors of strawberry, lavender, and dark chocolate. It’s also organic and roasted on-demand, so you’ll always get a fresh, tasty bag. The Yirgacheffe Ethiopian is a flowery, fruity coffee with less chocolate and smoky than you would desire.

Medium Roast Coffee

Organic Roast Coffee

Our opinion:

This coffee is low-acid, organic, and Fair Trade. Best of all, it’s a perfectly roasted medium. Lighter roasts, on the other hand, are preferred by many third-wave coffee lovers because they are more upfront in flavor, with grapefruit and other fruity notes. Darker roasts, on the other hand, tend to be considerably more oily, which gives pour-over a huge boost.

Our opinion:

Passenger’s German Cordoba is one of our favorite light roasts. This award-winning brew is light on the palate yet packs a punch with its contrasting sweet and sour tastes. With notes of delicate flowers, almond brittle, and green apple, you can expect to taste rich toffee and cooked berries complemented by Meyer lemon, as well as delicate florals, almond brittle, and green apple. This is a clean cup with pleasant flavors and a light body that a pour-over brew perfectly highlights.

Conclusion

That’s all there is to it. You should be able to find a bean that meets your taste on this list, whether you enjoy powerful, caffeine-packed brews or lighter, more complex medium roasts, or anything in between. We recommend purchasing whole beans so that you can grind them yourself and get the most out of your bean. To ensure that you pick the perfect bean for you, consider your machinery, the roast, and the origin of the product.
