Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Just in case you wonder...

Do magnetic boots help horses?

Magnetic boots have ushered in a new era in the equestrian industry. These boots provide minimally invasive treatment for ill horses with diseases such as joint abnormalities, tendon conditions, bone pain, lower leg inflammation, and bowed legs. Magnetic boots are equipped with magnets that adhere to the outside of the hooves. Magnetic conductivity gives optimal heat and proximity to the region of inflammation, resulting in rapid healing of the wound or chronic condition.

Should my horse wear boots jump?

Boots are not mandatory for all horses while jumping. Remember that some horses can naturally go to a greater degree of jumping, while others cannot. If you want to keep your horse’s feet safe, invest in a pair of jumping boots.

What boots should I put on my horse for jumping?

For horse jumping, a combination of fetlock boots and tendon boots would be ideal. These are suitable for school, competition, exercise, and leaping. It’s worth noting that certain fetlock boots come with extra support and comfort.

Won’t my horse’s legs get too hot wearing boots?

It is essential that the horse’s legs do not overheat, thus it is worthwhile to choose boots made of breathable materials or designed to allow airflow. Also, be sure to rinse off your horse’s legs after exercise to keep them cool and clean. To prevent sweat-related skin infections, keep the boots clean and clear of dried gunk and debris.

Shires
ARMA Open-Front Boots

Shock-absorbing protection

price from
$43.99
Our opinion:

Shires’ ARMA are open-front boots. Shires is a solid go-to brand for superb goods at a fair price. These boots fit well and provide enough protection against harm. If you’ve never worn tendon boots before, make sure you understand how to put them on correctly. The robust, perforated neoprene lining protects tendons by providing breathable, shock-absorbing protection. It is ergonomically designed with smooth, rounded edges and recessed stitching for long-lasting durability.

Promising review:

After quite a few online orders I've finally found a pony size that actually fits my pony. She's a medium and they are nicely made, snug and fit very well--not too long/tall.

Kavallerie Classic Tendon Boots - Best Boots for Older Horse: Simpler to put on
https://www.amazon.com/

3.
Kavallerie
Classic Tendon Boots

Simpler to put on

price from
$59.99
Our opinion:

If you like the aesthetic of the hook strap Kavallerie boots on this list but prefer the ease of use of velcro straps, we suggest these. These boots contain many of the same amazing characteristics as the other pair of boots, such as air vents, but they are much simpler to put on and far less expensive. The strong striking zone on the rear of this boot is excellent for protecting against hind leg hits. Tendon boots should only be worn on the front legs. If you wish to protect your back legs, check for fetlock boots.

Promising review:

Love them! My daughter loves that they are discreetly labeled for the right and left leg. They are super easy to use and the large fit our big dutch warmblood perfectly!

LeMieux
Fleece Brushing Boots

Warm fleece inside

price from
$67.84
Our opinion:

You’ll like LeMieux equestrian gear, such as their protective boots. Brushing boots are a great alternative if you don’t jump or ride dressage. They contain a warm fleece inside to keep your legs from rubbing. The interior of the brush boots is reinforced to defend against horses who often brush their two front legs together as they move. Brushing boots that are more flexible and pleasant for the horse.

Roma F.C. Competitor Open Front/Fetlock Boot Set - Best Boots for Older Horse: More athletic design
https://www.amazon.com/

5.
Roma F.C.
Competitor Open Front/Fetlock Boot Set

More athletic design

price from
$68.25
Our opinion:

Rome is another well-known equestrian gear brand. You’ll adore how they’ve made a basic, straightforward boot design more athletic with this option. This is a full pair of four boots, two for the front fetlocks and two for the rear fetlocks. If you want a matching set, it is a fantastic buy. If you do wear fetlock boots, make sure they are not too tight. They must be snug so that they do not slide, but being too tight might lead the horse to react too strongly while leaping.

Promising review:

These are great for the price. They don't feel too flimsy and fit my 15.2hh Thoroughbred perfectly, even though I was worried about not being able to choose a size. I use them for the few days out of the week that I am jumping, and trail-riding, so they are not getting used very hard.

6.
Professional's Choice
Boots Flexor Tendon Shock

Great for jumping

price from
$73.71
Our opinion:

Professional’s Choice offers an excellent range of horse boots. These jumping boots are very charming and won’t break the budget. The brand’s ‘air bag’ integration, which helps boost protection against impact injuries, is one feature we truly enjoy about this alternative. They are somewhat more costly than some of the other velcro closure alternatives on this page, but they provide additional protection in the striking zone, making them valuable.

Promising review:

Very nice open boots. It does protect the horses tendons while preventing Overuse Injuries.

Kavallerie
Pro-K 3D Air-Mesh Horse Boots

Reducing heat generation

price from
$90.00
Our opinion:

Kavallerie is another brand of open-front tendon boots that we like. This pair of boots is rather stylish and modern in appearance, so you won’t be lacking in style when you enter the show ring. The silky lining is pleasant for the horse and prevents friction. They are lightweight and include air vents, which is a vital aspect. They have advanced shock-absorbing liners that aid in reducing heat generation on the legs.

Promising review:

Love these boots! They fit true to size and work great! My 17.2h Hanoverian/Tb gelding took a large and they fit perfectly! Would definitely recommend these boots if your horse needs protection on their tendons during rides!

8.
Iconoclast
Front Orthopedic Boots

Ideal all-around pick

price from
$90.00
Our opinion:

These unique Double Sling® Straps provide unparalleled lateral support in Iconoclast® Orthopedic Support Boots. Iconoclast® is the only boot that properly raises and cradles the horse limb due to its uniformly distributed support to the suspensory branches. This is the ideal all-around boot for any horse discipline since it is designed to prevent joint interference and limitation. It’s designed to be used every day while riding to help avoid soft tissue injury in the lower legs, and it’ll make your horse feel more secure with every stride he makes, in and out of the arena.

Eskadron Flexisoft - Best Boots for Older Horse: More flexible exterior
https://www.amazon.com/

9.
Eskadron
Flexisoft

More flexible exterior

price from
$115.00
Our opinion:

Some of my favorite velcro closure open-front horse boots are made by ESKADRON. These are highly popular boots that can be seen in many barns across the globe. These tendon boots, unlike certain velcro-closure tendon boots, offer protection yet have a more flexible exterior. It is more comfortable for the horse this way. These are a touch on the pricey side for velcro clasp horse boots. However, the protective shell’s material is of higher quality than the inexpensive choices.

Promising review:

Can't go wrong with classic eskadrons for daily schooling! Great protection, easy to clean, and durable.

Veredus Carbon Gel Vento Front - Best Boots for Older Horse: Best premium pick
https://www.amazon.com/

10.
Veredus
Carbon Gel Vento Front

Best premium pick

price from
$256.10
Our opinion:

Carbon Gel VENTO is the first cannon bone protection with dual ventilation. The heat emitted by the horse’s leg is transferred via the techno sheepskin and disseminated in the 3D mesh ducted fabric. As a consequence of the animal’s activity, fresh air enters via the air intake and sends the heat collected in the ducted fabric upwards to the output grille. As a result, ventilation is horizontal – from the inside outwards – and vertical – from the bottom upwards: a revolutionary and entirely new technique.
