If it’s hot where you live, mountain biking at night could be more pleasant than riding it during the day. In more northern climates, the longer winter nights mean you may not be able to get all of your riding done while it is still light out. While out for an easy ride in the woods after sunset, you’re more likely to be caught off guard. For night riding, you should invest in the best mountain bike light you can find. Some of the best bike lights for night riding are listed below.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is a bike light?
Bicycle lighting is light attached to bicycles with the primary goal of increasing the visibility of the bicycle and its rider to other road users in low-light conditions. Lighting reflective materials like cat’s eyes and traffic signs serve a secondary purpose. A third aim may be to light the road so that the rider can see where the rider is going. Serving the latter purposes necessitates a much higher luminous flux and, as a result, a greater amount of power.
Is a bike light necessary?
There are currently no federal restrictions requiring the use of bicycles equipped with lights in the United States. So the decision is entirely up to you. It is strongly advised that cyclists increase their visibility by using headlights and taillights when riding during the day and at night, respectively.
How many lumens do I need for my bike light?
It all depends on how fast you go. An average trail rider will probably be alright with a minimum of 200 lumens; optimal is between 250 and 400 lumens. Some riders can travel pretty fast offroad at night, but anything brighter over 400 lumens doesn’t help them go faster, but it can shorten their battery life.
Can bike light appears too bright?
Bike lights (both front and rear) might seem to be too bright and cause people to become visually impaired if they are not used in a suitable setting and are not positioned correctly. In addition to being distracting to cars, bikes, and pedestrians, this is potentially hazardous to your own safety.

Magicshine
RN 1500 Exclusive Colored Bike Light
Stylish Design Bike Light
This new RN 1500 bike light combines function, fashion, and performance in a stylish package. The RN 1500 from Magicshine has 1500 lumens, a lightweight design, USB-C charging and discharging, an IPX 7 waterproof rating, and a 5000mAh capacity. The RN 1500, with a maximum output of 1500 lumens, is suitable for road cycling, trail riding, everyday commuting, and other activities. The anti-glare lens emits a uniform soft beam that does not dazzle oncoming pedestrians or vehicles, making cycling safer at all times of the day and night.
This light is perfect for commuters. I ride a unicycle and needed a lot of light to see objects/potholes in the road. The battery on this light is spot on with what is advertised. After riding for over two hours, it only took an hour to charge fully. I love that it has an USB-C charging port.

Lumintrail
1000 Lumen Offroad LED Bicycle Headlight
Helmet Bike Light
This light is brighter than a vehicle headlight and will draw everyone’s attention to you. It will also allow you to ride in really difficult circumstances. Use it on top of your helmet so you can change the brightness and location of the lightfast and simply to prevent blinding others. If you’re on a pitch-dark off-road path, for example, you can turn it up to maximum brightness and aim it upwards to see the ground 20 feet ahead of you. If someone is approaching, quickly reduce the brightness to the lowest setting and point it towards the ground. Expect to be able to use the light for up to four hours on high power and up to eight hours on flashing mode. A battery power indicator is included to assist you in keeping track of your battery life.
I love this light! It's better than the $200 LED light it's replacing (which admittedly is 10 years old). The light is bright and very easy to use. It's more of a spotlight than a general light, it's great for dimly lit streets at night. I've got the light and the battery mounted on my helmet. Mounting the light is easy, with the included mount. Getting the battery on the helmet took a little bit of improvisation, but it works well. If you want to keep weight off the helmet, you can carry the battery in a jersey pocket.

Light & Motion
Urban 350 Bike Headlights
Essential Features Bike Light
If you’re riding on a route with a lot of other bikers, they’ll appreciate you for not blinding them! You could assume that this light isn’t bright enough at 350 lumens. However, for most urban commuting, 300 to 500 lumens are sufficient. This bike light comes with all of the essential functions, including a battery life indicator. It is 100 percent waterproof, with an IP67 rating, which means it is fully waterproof in 3 feet of water for 30 minutes. This is far superior to most bike lights in terms of waterproofing.
I've ridden the 14 miles round trip to work in the Pacific Northwest 630 AM darkness and really like this light. It had been recommended on some bike blog as bright enough to really light up the road (which it does), way better than your typical economy light (and I was impressed with this), without being so bright as to be a dazzling hazard to oncoming drivers (which seemed to be the case). It lights up the road well, it's easy to take on and off or reposition, and I like the USB recharge feature.

Serfas
E-Lume 450 Aluminum Body Headlight
Universal Mounting Bike Light
The Serfas E-Lume 450 bike headlight has 450 lumens, making it strong enough for practically any use. Keep in mind that the typical car’s low beam is 700 lumens. With a universal mounting bracket, the light is simple to install and remove. If you have more than one bike, this will come in handy. The Serfas E-Lume 450 bike light has four brightness levels and can be set to be steady or intermittent. This is a classic tiny bike light that attaches to the front handlebars. It is, however, contemporary in that it is powered by a USB cord and is quite bright. It has a wide beam and is extremely bright. It has a premium feel to it in your hands, and it shows when you’re out cycling at night.
450 lumens light for a very affordable price. I really love the safety blink feature on this light. The modes are perfect for any situation and the battery life is rock solid as well. This light is not a plastic casing and is actually encased like stated in a very sturdy aluminum body. I originally purchased after seeing a friend have this light and was very impressed with it. After finding the price was very affordable, it was an easy buy

Lupine Lighting System
Wilma R 14 Bike Helmet Light
Bike Light with Bluetooth Feature
The Wilma R 14 is one of Lupine’s most well-known lights. This firm, which is famed for its high-quality German engineering, has designed a four-LED light with lots of battery life. You’ll get a lot of features, a lot of personalization, and a lot of durabilities. All of this is presented in an unquestionably costly light. Lupine’s light uses an aluminum clamp to connect to the handlebars, but you can also acquire Velcro and neoprene helmet straps, a Go-Pro adaptor, and even a stick-on mount. You can adjust the brightness up to 3200 lumens, switch on SOS blink features, and check out the supplemental power saving mode using the Bluetooth remote.

Ravemen
PR1200 2X LED Road Commuting Bike Light
Versatile Bike Light
The PR1600 from Ravemen is a versatile light that’s ideal for city dwellers who prefer to hit the trails on weekends. Dual lenses are used in the light, and you can switch between them depending on your surroundings. One lens features a dipping beam on commuter bike lanes to keep the light on the ground ahead of you and out of the eyes of arriving pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. This light has a flash setting and can switch between 800 and 100 lumens.
Having soldiered on with pretty old tech I finally bit the bullet and bought a modern lamp. I like the "road" lens which reduces glare for oncoming vehicles / cyclists, and the remaining time display. The 600 lumens is more than adequate for 30mph+ descents, and the combo 1200 is great in the forest. I've just come back from a 20km loop and the lamp performed really well. £86 at time of purchase and well worth the money.

Light & Motion
Seca Comp 2000
All Around Performance Bike Lgiht
For the excellent all-around performance at a reasonable price, Seca Comp 2000 merits a slot. It has a 90-minute battery life at its maximum output of 2000 lumens, according to the manufacturer, although some users claim to have gotten more than that. The Seca 2000 has four operating modes and is typically simple to use. It also has a strong rubberized strap that attaches to the handlebars. There’s no need to tinker with the hardware. This light is USB fast charging compatible.
I've had several Light & Motion lights, very bright, all still working great. The button blinks red to alert you on battery status, the four bright levels are all useful. Read the directions carefully and practice turning it on recognizing the modes, it has a race mode, and a lockout mode.

NiteRider
Lumina 1200 Boost USB Rechargeable Bike Light
Sharp Brightness Bike Light
The Lumina 1200 Boost from NiteRider is a divisive affordable bike light. The single LED and lens generate a sharply focused beam despite the 1200 lumen brightness. The trail in front of the rider is well-lit, with darker shadows around the edges. Some riders prefer this, while others prefer a wider spread. This compact and ruggedly built little light is a solid, budget-friendly option if this riding experience appeals to you. It comes with a universal mount and seven settings, including one for flash photography. This will allow you to make the most of a limited battery capacity. Finally, the Lumina 1200 Boost has a boosted light function that can be activated with a single button press, instantly increasing brightness.
This light is very bright and does a decent job of throwing light in front of your bike. The beam pattern is somewhat narrow for use on the bars and therefore we are using this as a helmet mounted lamp. Paired with another bar-mounted light we are very happy with the results.

Garmin
Varia UT 800 Smart Headlight
Automatic Bike Light
The UT800 has a unique function called automatic illumination adjustments. It can detect ambient illumination levels and adjust output up to 800 lumens to match. This translates to longer battery life as well as hands-free operation. The UT800’s output may be adjusted using five different lighting modes. A variety of beam styles are available. The light may be installed on a helmet or a bar, depending on the package you choose.
The Varia UT 800 light works great, linked up with my Garmin Edge 1000 without issue. The up front mount holds the light securely. I ride paved roads in SE Michigan with some sections are as smooth as the lunar surface after a meteor storm. The ride goes in and out heavely tree lined roads and the light switches from blinking to steady on day light rides and the light illuminates reflective road signs well in day light.

NiteRider
Lumina Dual 1800 MTB Twin LED Bike Light
Head-Resistant Bike Light
The Lumina Dual 1800 from NiteRider produces a wide beam pattern of smooth, non-glaring light. In boost mode, which is triggered by double-tapping the power button, you’ll get 1800 lumens. It also has two-day flash settings and four more light levels. Side illumination is also included to make your bike more visible at all times. The nylon body of the Lumina Dual 1800 is strengthened with fiberglass. Thanks to an aluminum heat sink, it’s more heat resistant than some other versions on the market. The mount is simple to install or remove from the handlebars and transfer to another bike.
I am big fan and serious MTB Rider. If you want the best bike night light, you must have this one. Bright, battery life ok, good quality lamp, nice wide handle support. I can ride 3 hours at night with medium intensity (is all you need in the woods and in the trail). I have some other night lamps that says have more lumens, but this NiteRider 1,800 is the best of all. Really love it.
