You’re missing out if you’ve never gone mountain riding at night. It’s a fantastic challenge; hazards come at you quicker, it seems like you’re going at warp speed, and the forests at night are breathtaking. To brighten the route, you’ll need a powerful front light. The brighter your lights are, the more enjoyable your night riding will be. You’ll have a better view of the course, or objects hidden in the shadows that maybe will jump out at you. Here are some of the finest mountain bike lights currently available on the market.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a bike light?

Bicycle lighting is light attached to bicycles with the primary goal of increasing the visibility of the bicycle and its rider to other road users in low-light conditions. Lighting reflective materials like cat’s eyes and traffic signs serve a secondary purpose. A third aim may be to light the road so that the rider can see where the rider is going. Serving the latter purposes necessitates a much higher luminous flux and, as a result, a greater amount of power.

Is a bike light necessary?

There are currently no federal restrictions requiring the use of bicycles equipped with lights in the United States. So the decision is entirely up to you. It is strongly advised that cyclists increase their visibility by using headlights and taillights when riding during the day and at night, respectively.

Can bike light appears too bright?

Bike lights (both front and rear) might seem to be too bright and cause people to become visually impaired if they are not used in a suitable setting and are not positioned correctly. In addition to being distracting to cars, bikes, and pedestrians, this is potentially hazardous to your own safety.

How many lumens do I need for my bike light?

It all depends on how fast you go. An average trail rider will probably be alright with a minimum of 200 lumens; optimal is between 250 and 400 lumens. Some riders can travel pretty fast offroad at night, but anything brighter over 400 lumens doesn’t help them go faster, but it can shorten their battery life.

RN 1500 Exclusive Colored Bike Light

Stylish Design Bike Light

price from
$89.99
Our opinion:

This new RN 1500 bike light is a sleek product that blends utility, fashion, and performance. The Magicshine RN 1500 has 1500 lumens, a lightweight design, USB-C charging and discharging, an IPX 7 waterproof certification, and a 5000mAh battery. The RN 1500 is suited for road cycling, trail riding, daily commuting, and other sports, with a maximum output of 1500 lumens. The anti-glare lens produces a gentle, consistent beam that does not dazzle approaching people or cars, making riding safer at all hours of the day and night.

Promising review:

This light is perfect for commuters. I ride a unicycle and needed a lot of light to see objects/potholes in the road. The battery on this light is spot on with what is advertised. After riding for over two hours, it only took an hour to charge fully. I love that it has an USB-C charging port.

Lumina Dual 1800

High Performance Bike Light

price from
$129.99
Our opinion:

The Niterider Lumina Dual 1800 is a high-performance light that may come as a shock to some. Despite its low advertised maximum lumens, it has excellent power and beam dispersion, as well as being reasonably priced, so it checks a lot of boxes. It greatly outperforms its price and can compete with many more costly lights on the market.

Promising review:

I’ve a family of 4 that all ride bikes for primary transportation. Between all of us we’ve used dozens of headlights including most of the offerings from Niterider and Cygolite. This light has the smoothest and most secure mounting system of all of them any does not require you to dent your thumb to get the latch to release. The light itself is super bright, very long lasting at normal brightness levels, and has super efficient and responsive controls that make operating the light a pleasure. Buy it, you will be pleased

MaXx-D Mk13 Rechargeable Headlight

3D Accelerometer Headlight

price from
$485.00
Our opinion:

The newest MaXx D MK13 all-in-one device from Exposure has artificial intelligence built-in; in Reflex mode, it adjusts the light output based on trail conditions, utilizing in-built 3D accelerometers to assess speed and bumps. After driving over easy trails, the brightness immediately rises upon encountering difficult parts. It saves battery life and eliminates the need to tinker with the mode button. An 11,600mAh lithium-ion battery powers the four XP-L2 LEDs, which provide a maximum of 4,000 lumens in Reflex mode and 2,500 lumens in Constant mode.

Six Pack MK11 Light

Six LEDs Bike Light

$548.00
Our opinion:

The Exposure Six Pack is an astonishing beast, with six LEDs and ten working modes, as shown by its 424g weight and bulky proportions, which store a 15,500mAh battery. However, Exposure’s clamp screws to the bars keep it sturdy. The built-in Reflex technology utilizes accelerometers to determine how fast you’re going and how rough the terrain is, then adjusts the brightness to match, up to 5,000 lumens, so you don’t have to deal with the settings while riding.

Our opinion:

The Light & Motion Seca Enduro seems a lot brighter than its advertised 2,500 lumens peak power out on the trail, demonstrating that raw power figures don’t always tell the full story with lights. A lot of it has to do with how electricity is utilized. The optics provide a terrific blend of flood and spot illumination, as well as excellent side-to-side lighting. The light’s battery life is amazing, it is kind of expensive but worth buying bike light.

Seca Comp 2000

Lightweight Bike Light

price from
$224.99
Our opinion:

The Light & Motion Seca Comp 2000 is a smaller, lighter device than many others, with two buttons, one of which illuminates and the other of which operates orange sidelights for on-road usage. The light color balance is nice, with the green and yellow tones not overpowering. The Seca Comp produced more light than it claimed. However, for less demanding routes and casual night riding, it’s an excellent choice.

Promising review:

This light is very good. The battery is a bit bulky, but the output is stellar. The fuel gauge is great, and the remote make is easy to ramp up the output on descents and dial it back on ascents. The mount is rock solid and doesn’t get jostled on impact. The battery stays put and doesn’t rattle around. Overall a great, if expensive light, but you do get what you pay for

Vis Pro 1000 Trail

Casual Bike Riding Light

price from
$100.44
Our opinion:

The Vis Pro 1000 Trail has a maximum brightness output of 1,000, which is on the low end of a practical light for serious night riding. This self-contained device also can simply swap from bars to helmets, allowing it to be utilized as the main illumination at night in camp. It takes 2.5 hours to fully charge through USB. It can even charge while producing 150 lumens, which is just enough light to grind gravel for as long as it takes to construct that ideal camp.

Promising review:

I've had several Light & Motion lights, very bright, all still working great. The button blinks red to alert you on battery status, the four bright levels are all useful. Read the directions carefully and practice turning it on recognizing the modes, it has a race mode, and a lockout mode.

Ravemen
PR1600 Bicycle Headlight

Versatile Bicycle light

price from
$107.75
Our opinion:

The RAVEMEN PR1600 performs a great job on the trail or on the road if you’re seeking a single light that can handle several disciplines. It has a remote switch for MTB usage, so you may increase the lumens without stopping or taking your hands off the handlebars. Additionally, an extra power supply may be used to increase the advertised duration from 1.4 to 4 hours. The lumens in MTB mode span from 400 to 1,600, as the name suggests. Additionally, passthrough power enables you to attach an extra battery pack to prolong the duration.

Promising review:

The multiple modes are great. Battery life hours indicator - genius (esp in cold weather where battery life is always shorter than advertised). I know from the runners/walkers shielding their eyes that it works :-) and I haven’t even gotten around to trying the wireless remote yet! Going to buy another for my road bike.

BC30 v2.0 Bicycle Light

Waterproof Bike Light

price from
$89.95
Our opinion:

The V2.0 incorporates a wireless switch, which is ideal for any tricky terrain. Its burst mode produces a 2,200-lumen blast for 30 seconds, which is a nice feature that comes in useful on descents while not significantly impacting the burn duration. You may stock up on easily accessible and reasonably priced rechargeable batteries and still have enough juice to ride for days and nights. It boasts a long-lasting IP67 waterproof certification that will come in handy when it rains.

Promising review:

I ordered this instead of getting a lighting stator, and a light for my dirtbike. It works great out in the trails with the dirtbike and I can use it for my mountain bike as well. I would love for this to be rechargeable but I think they make another version that is already. I always carry 2 sets of batteries so it is never a problem. I have a set of 1500mah and they last me about 1:30 hrs on full brightness. But the second and third mode is plenty and I can get 2 hours out of them no problem.

Lupine Lighting System
Wilma R 14 Bike Helmet Light

Bike Light with Bluetooth Feature

price from
$775.00
Our opinion:

One of Lupine’s most well-known lights is the Wilma R 14. This company, known for its high-quality German engineering, has created a four-LED light that lasts a long time on a single charge. You’ll get a lot of features, a lot of customizability, and a lot of longevity. Everything is presented in an undeniably expensive light. Lupine’s light attaches to the handlebars using a metal clamp, but you can also get Velcro and neoprene helmet straps, a Go-Pro adapter, and even a stick-on attachment. Using the Bluetooth remote, you can change the brightness up to 3200 lumens, turn on SOS blink features, and check out the supplementary power-saving mode.
