In case you do not know

Is it good to read autobiography?

Reading a biography or autobiography can be viewed as an investment in one’s own personal knowledge and development. Knowledge is an asset that yields a significant return on investment.

What is the goal of autobiography?

An autobiography is a book in which the author recounts his or her own life’s events and accomplishments. As a result, the majority of autobiographies are written later in life. Because it’s published from the author’s perspective, the story is often told in the first person.

What is the importance of autobiography?

An autobiography has two purposes: to provide you with a first-person account of the subject’s life and to help you understand how their circumstances have changed them as a person.

How long is an autobiography?

Autobiographies can be as short as 200 pages or as lengthy as 400 pages depending on the author’s goals, but there are no hard and fast rules. Your book will be in line with what readers expect in general, and this will help you get your book formally published or help you advertise your self-published book better.

Our opinion:

Franklin’s writing allows his memories to linger on as part of collective memory, distinct from his body. The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is an attempt to recreate his past so readers, especially his son and American society, will comprehend it. Franklin began early on to improve himself. Franklin wanted to reach perfection in 13 weeks by abandoning bad habits and embracing 13 virtues. He also scheduled each task with enough time.

Promising review:

"Amazing record of an amazing life . Mr Franklin surely is one the giants of our history. The Autobiography could inform anyone of a way to have impact in their time."

Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela

An Autobiography of The First Black President in America

price from

Our opinion:

Nelson Mandela’s autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, describes the South African black independence battle. Nelson Mandela’s inauguration ended 300 years of white dominance. The first democratic elections gave his party 252 seats. The ceremony was held in Pretoria’s Union Buildings amphitheater. Mandela bowed to dignitaries before speaking. As the country’s first black president, he vowed against discrimination.

Promising review:

"He brings a horrific past to life. He is such a great man who writes with such humility.....a rare combination. This book is definitely a tribute to the resiliency of the human spirit and the power of love and hate in our world."

Our opinion:

Mohandas Gandhi spearheaded India’s long and difficult campaign for freedom. In “An Autobiography: My Life and My Experiences with the Truth,” he discusses battling English colonization and propagating “Satyagraha”.  Gandhi’s moral and ethical devotion is uncommon. He informs us about his own faults and how he’s grown. These quotes show Gandhi’s commitment to practicing what he believes is good, from truth to vegetarianism to self-denial.

"Great book to understand how religion and politics affects how governments. Gandhi believed in a God and being a servant to all."

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

An Autobiography from The Black Novelist and Poet

price from
$7.99
Our opinion:

The poem compares caged and free birds, focusing on the caged birds. The poem opens with a free bird flying anywhere it pleases without competition. The free bird metaphorically represents a white person. It dips in the orange sun. It seizes the sky as it flies. It’s Angelou’s autobiography. This was the title of Angelou’s backstory. Her autobiography explains. She’s a black novelist and poet. She assumed her skin color silenced others. She felt trapped. Angelou’s era was free, yet laws made black people feel nondependent.

Promising review:

A Moveable Feast: The Restored Edition

An Inspiring Autobiography from Famous American Writer

price from
$14.83
Our opinion:

Ernest Hemingway’s A Movable Feast is well-known. After her husband’s death in the 1950s, Mary Hemingway released a memoir based on his 1920s journals.  Ernest Hemingway wrote A Moveable Feast when he was a young American writer in Paris (1921–26). Hemingway worked as a journalist on Paris’s Left Bank while chasing his dream of becoming a novelist. Several painters and authors in Hemingway’s drawings were American ex-pats residing in Paris. The sketches represent event evolution from multiple views, not in a strict chronological.

Promising review:

"5 stars, because just as the title of this book is a metaphor for how Hemingway sees Paris, so do I feel about his warm, captivating writing style. ..."

The Autobiography of Malcolm X: As Told to Alex Haley

A Decent and Readable Autobiography from Malcolm X

Our opinion:

The Autobiography of Malcolm X discusses racism and “perception” a lot. Growing up, Malcolm adds, people thought negatively of black people. Malcolm claims perception is the main reason he wants to keep blacks and whites apart. Malcolm’s book discusses religion. Malcolm was a Muslim and discusses religion in this essay. Islam is better than racism, he claims. “America must comprehend Islam because it removes racism from society,” he argues. Definitely a decent, readable autobiography.

Promising review:

"So hard to read his own words knowing the outcome but I’m glad I did for now I have a much better appreciation for his life and his cause. A truly amazing human being and leader of his people."

Agatha Christie: An Autobiography

A Well-made Autobiography about The Most Famous Mystery Writer

price from
$12.59
Our opinion:

Agatha Christie’s Autobiography isn’t a filthy tell-all, but she writes it with elegance and comedy. Agatha Christie’s autobiography wasn’t released until 1978, a year after her death at 85. Christie is one of the world’s best-known mystery novelists. Christie was secretive, rarely spoke with the media, and even disappeared. She had a good writing career despite this. Christie fans finally learned more about their beloved mystery writer thanks to her autobiography.

Chronicles: Volume One

An Autobiography and Memoir from Bob Dylan

price from
$11.69
Our opinion:

Bob Dylan began his career in New York City in the 1960s. In Chronicles, Vol. 1, Dylan’s own words reveal his motivations, struggles, and ingenuity. Dylan’s memoir has three chapters about his childhood and youth and two chapters about working on two unappreciated albums. This work’s literary quality first attracts the reader. So it was prudent to place two chapters about an older, more shattered self between three chapters about an artist still finding his voice.

Our opinion:

Anne Frank was a Jewish teen who wrote a diary during World War II. Diary of a Young Girl is a classic autobiography. She and seven others hid for two years in Amsterdam’s “Secret Annex” before being taken to German death camps. 1945: Anne died in Bergen-Belsen. Frank’s dad was the only survivor. He published Anne’s diary, which recounts her hidden thoughts, feelings, and observations. It’s an international best-seller and Holocaust educational standard.

Before becoming a politician, Barack Obama wrote books. Dreams from My Father depicts a young man wondering about identity and belonging. Obama, whose parents are African-American and American, had an emotional trip. He grew up in Indonesia after his mother’s family moved from Kansas to Hawaii.
